As the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones approaches, cast members from every era of the HBO series have faced two recurring questions: Will your character return? And will they survive? Michiel Huisman, who portrayed the mercenary Daario Naharis from seasons four to six, recently addressed the first question.
HBO is known for keeping its actors tight-lipped, and Huisman's response was predictably vague. "I’m so excited to watch the finale!" he told Digital Spy. "I’m at a loss for words. I can’t give anything away, so I’ll keep it to myself."
Daario Naharis, Daenerys's former lover and protector, was last seen in the season six finale. Daenerys tasked him with governing the liberated cities of Essos while she set out to conquer Westeros, a decision he reluctantly accepted. Though he hasn’t appeared since and was only briefly mentioned in season seven, it’s assumed he and his Second Sons are still maintaining control in Dragon's Bay.
Daenerys might summon Daario and his troops to assist her, especially if she requires their strength to oppose the Golden Company, which Cersei has enlisted to bolster her Lannister army. This could potentially pit him against Jon Snow, Daenerys's current romantic interest.
We’ll just have to wait until next year to discover how it all unfolds.
