It blooms once annually in spring, with flowers about an inch across. While most varieties have single blooms, there are also double-flowered options. The leaves are pointed ovals that fall in autumn. Mature bushes can grow to be 12 feet tall and wide.
How to grow: Space shrubs generously apart when planting, and they can thrive in various soil types. They flourish best in rich, well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. If needed, prune after flowering to enhance the shape and prevent the bushes from becoming too dense or the canes from aging too quickly.
