Description: Nasturtiums are hardy and versatile, growing either in a vine-like fashion or as compact, bushy plants. The nearly round leaves are complemented by bright orange and yellow flowers, which feature distinctive long spurs at the back.
How to Grow: Nasturtiums thrive in full sunlight with dry, sandy, and well-drained soil. They perform best in areas with cool, dry summers, though they can also grow in other climates. If bushy types lack enough sunlight, they may become leggy or stringy. Plant seeds outdoors after the last frost, spacing them 8 to 12 inches apart, depending on the variety.
Propagation: Plant the seeds in the desired location, as they require light for germination, which takes 7 to 12 days at 65°F. Do not cover the seeds.
Uses: Dwarf varieties are perfect for flower borders, garden beds, and along pathways. Vining varieties can be trained to climb fences or posts, or used in window boxes and hanging baskets.
