Keeping up with Netflix's pricing has become a challenge due to frequent price hikes. This is especially true for those sharing their accounts: The company eliminated free password sharing in the U.S. in May 2023. Now, sharing your Netflix account with others requires an additional monthly fee.
Even that extra fee has gone up. During its Q4 2024 earnings call on Tuesday, Netflix revealed plans to increase prices for all subscription tiers and additional users. Below are the updated subscription options as of January 2025.
Standard plan with ads ($7.99 monthly)
The “Standard with ads” plan remains Netflix’s most affordable option. Introduced in November 2022, this tier provides access to the majority of Netflix’s movie and TV show library, along with its mobile games. While updated lists of excluded titles are scarce (the most recent seems to be a 2024 Variety article), a lock icon will indicate content unavailable on the ad-supported plan.
This plan supports streaming on two devices simultaneously in “Full HD” (1080p resolution, not 4K HDR). It also allows downloads on two devices at a time. However, you cannot add extra users to this plan. Originally priced at $6.99, Netflix increased it to $7.99 in January.
Standard ($17.99 monthly, plus $8.99 for an additional user)
The key distinction between Standard and Standard with ads is the absence of advertisements. The Standard plan offers uninterrupted access to Netflix’s entire library, just as the platform originally intended. You can also download content to two devices simultaneously.
The Standard plan allows adding one external user for an extra $8.99 per month (a $1 increase from the previous rate). This raises the total monthly cost from $17.99 to $26.98. Note that only one additional user can be added per account.
Although ads are absent and there are no viewing restrictions, the video quality remains limited to 1080p. For 4K HDR content, you’ll need to upgrade to a higher-priced plan.
Premium ($24.99 monthly, plus $8.99 for each additional user)
The Premium Netflix plan offers the ultimate experience, providing full access to Netflix’s library, including 4K HDR streaming where available. You can stream on up to four devices simultaneously and download content on six devices.
Previously priced at $22.99, Netflix increased the Premium plan to $24.99 this week. You can add up to two external users, but costs escalate quickly: $33.98 with one user and $42.97 with two. It’s hard to imagine telling a 2022 Stranger Things viewer that Netflix could cost over $40 monthly.
