With its latest update, Netflix has discontinued its standalone Windows app, replacing it with a web-based application. This new version functions more like a shortcut to the Netflix website, resulting in the loss of a key feature: the ability to download content.
Offline video downloads are essential for many streaming platforms, as constant internet access isn't always feasible. I frequently download episodes or movies to my devices to enjoy during internet outages or while traveling without a connection.
Although Netflix continues to support downloads on iPhone, iPad, and Android, it has removed this feature for Windows users. The reason remains unclear, but if you rely on your PC for travel, there's still a way to download Netflix content on Windows.
How to Download Movies on Netflix for Windows

Rather than relying on Netflix's official "web app," consider installing an older version of the Netflix app, as suggested in this Reddit post. This older version still supports the download feature, allowing you to continue downloading your favorite content seamlessly.
Keep in mind that this is merely a temporary solution. Netflix may discontinue support for the older app version at any time, making this workaround obsolete. However, as of now, it remains functional. Here’s how you can proceed:
If Netflix for Windows has already updated on your PC, uninstall it. Navigate to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps, click the three-dots beside Netflix, and choose Uninstall.
Next, disable automatic updates in the Microsoft Store to prevent Netflix from updating to the latest version, which removes the download functionality. Open the Microsoft Store, click the profile icon, go to Settings, and toggle off App updates.
Install the older version of Netflix. Visit the Adguard store page, paste Netflix's app link, and click the checkmark. From the results, download version 6.99.5. Alternatively, the Reddit thread provides download links on Dropbox and Google Drive, but downloading directly from Microsoft is recommended.
After downloading, open Terminal on your PC and paste this command: Add-AppxPackage .Downloads4DF9E0F8.Netflix_6.99.5.0_neutral_~_mcm4njqhnhss8.AppxBundle
This will install the older Netflix version on your PC, allowing you to download movies and TV shows as before. Note that the Terminal command assumes the Netflix app package is in the Downloads folder. Adjust the path if it’s saved elsewhere. Even with automatic updates disabled, the Microsoft Store may attempt to update apps. To avoid this, manually cancel the update or keep the Microsoft Store closed.
