Nissan has initiated a recall of 404,690 older trucks, SUVs, and minivans over a potential safety concern with their airbags. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “the emblem posts may crack over time, and in the event of an airbag deployment, the emblem and retainer could detach.” This poses a danger as the emblem could turn into a projectile, increasing the risk of injury to passengers.
Which Nissan models are involved in the recall?
The following Nissan models are part of the recall:
2008 – 2011 Nissan Frontier (113,313 units)
2008 – 2011 Nissan Titan (75,530 units)
2008 – 2011 Nissan Xterra (72,601 units)
2008 – 2011 Nissan Pathfinder (70,693 units)
2008 – 2011 Nissan Armada (43,616 units)
2008 – 2009 Nissan Quest (28,937 units)
Nissan has confirmed it is aware of four reported injuries linked to this issue. The problem was first noted as early as 2019, when a lawsuit revealed contaminant residue on a broken emblem from a 2010 Nissan Titan. The first official injury related to this defect was reported in January 2022, when a customer claimed to have been injured after the emblem detached from their airbag module cover.
