After cutting the cord in our household, we’re constantly searching for the perfect media player that delivers the most cohesive living room media experience. With Boxee's standalone app development seemingly at a standstill, I’ve been hunting for a worthy replacement for quite some time.
Qvivo’s visuals and user interface are impressive. The smooth background scrolling animation is easy on the eyes.
Considering that Qvivo is still in its alpha phase and was just recently made available to the public, it shows a lot of potential. The platform is evolving into a server/client structure, allowing access to your media from any device at home, as well as upcoming iOS and Android mobile apps. They are also working on a store where you can purchase music and videos using Qstore credits.
I encountered some issues with Qvivo not working with mapped network folders, but since this is a common setup, I’m confident the bugs will be ironed out over time. One major feature missing is Boxee's plugin system, meaning streaming video from other websites isn't possible yet.
While not quite ready for mainstream use, Qvivo boasts a solid '10-foot' interface and is certainly a home media player to watch out for.
