Nail salons, once predominantly a women’s space, are increasingly becoming a popular destination for men seeking professional nail care. Steve Mason/Digital Vision/ThinkStockNail salons were once considered a woman's territory, but those days are long behind us. Today, it's normal to see men at the salon—whether solo or with their significant others. What was once deemed the 'metrosexual' look has now evolved into the standard for many men.
What’s the big deal about men visiting nail salons? Just like women, men can maintain their nails at home, but there's something special about getting a manicure at a salon. It's a mini hand facial—offering relaxation, care for your nails and cuticles, and promoting overall nail health. Plus, it’s one of the more affordable pampering treatments available.
For men, it’s not always about indulgence. Since many men don’t learn the art of moisturizing or cuticle care during their teens—something many women are taught—it makes sense to seek out professional help for hand care. According to the International Spa Association, men make up 30% of spa clientele, which is why many salons have created specialized menus just for them. These often feature products with more masculine scents and a lower price for manicures, as most men skip the nail polish.
Taking it a step further, spas designed specifically for men are emerging everywhere. These establishments offer haircuts, hot shaves, waxing, manicures, and pedicures—all tailored to men’s needs. The environments are often designed with masculine touches, featuring mahogany furniture, pool tables, sports on TV, and imported beer. With names like 'The Boardroom' and 'Gentleman’s Groomers,' these spas remove any doubt that treating yourself to a little pampering is anything but manly.
