Antonio, one of her students, initially resisted exercising despite his doctor’s advice. As a shrewd entrepreneur, he was less interested in the health perks of exercise and more captivated by the idea of boosting his willpower and energy. He creatively covered the calorie counter on his treadmill with the word “willpower” and began viewing his workouts as a way to build the mental strength required to tackle daily challenges. Plus, he enjoyed the bonus benefits of improved overall health.
This approach is effective because it serves as an immediate motivator to complete your workout, shifting your focus to what you’re gaining (willpower) rather than what you’re losing (calories). Over time, the combined effects of exercise and increased willpower provide the energy and drive to pursue long-term happiness and success.
