Hot tubs offer great relaxation, but moving them is no easy task. Due to their unusual shape and considerable size, relocating a hot tub can be quite a challenge. Given their high cost, it's crucial to ensure they are moved safely. The ideal choice is to hire professionals who have the proper equipment. If you're already hiring movers for your home, make sure to inform them about the hot tub so they come prepared. However, if you prefer a DIY approach, with enough preparation and the right help, moving the hot tub yourself is possible. It’s not a solo project, though—you’ll need at least two or three people to assist. Here's how to move your hot tub safely.
What You'll Need:
- Two 2-by-4 wooden planks
- Straps
- Two furniture dollies
Steps to Follow:
- Pack all accessories of the hot tub separately. This includes common items like the heater, blower, electrical components, pumps, and plumbing fixtures. Each should be packed individually for safety.
- Drain the hot tub thoroughly.
- Carefully turn the tub on its side to make it easier to move. You’ll need assistance with this step.
- Two people should lift one side of the tub and tilt it toward the opposite side.
- Place a 2-by-4 underneath the hot tub for support.
- Tilt the other side of the tub (the side still resting on the ground).
- Place a second 2-by-4 beneath the hot tub. At this point, the hot tub should be supported by two 2-by-4s, raised about 2 inches (5 centimeters) off the ground.
- Position the flat side (not the wheel side) of the furniture dollies under the hot tub, between the two 2-by-4s. One dolly should be placed on each side of the tub.
- Secure the tub to the dollies with straps.
- Carefully push the dollies to transport the hot tub to its new location.
