Game of Thrones was well-known for featuring musicians in minor roles. Most of these cameos, such as those by Mastodon, Coldplay, Sigur Rós, and Of Monsters and Men, went unnoticed by viewers. However, Ed Sheeran's appearance was impossible to miss.
Robert Plant would likely have stood out as well. In a recent interview with George Stroumboulopoulos, the Led Zeppelin frontman shared that he was offered a role in the popular HBO series but decided against it. “I don’t want to be typecast,” Plant quipped, eliciting laughter.
Plant humorously referenced how many Led Zeppelin songs draw inspiration from medieval European history, with some even directly referencing elements from The Lord of the Rings. Essentially, Led Zeppelin’s lyrics align seamlessly with the high fantasy world of Game of Thrones.
“I was the one who started that,” Plant remarked. “Look back at ‘Immigrant Song’ and how Led Zeppelin engaged in a cultural exchange in Iceland with the Icelandic government. They had no idea what they were bringing to their small island.”
Which character could Robert Plant have portrayed in Game of Thrones?
Regarding the role Plant might have taken, he only dropped subtle clues. “I got to ride a horse and act all majestic,” he said, mimicking a noble posture.
Perhaps a noble lord? Well, there’s always House of the Dragon if Plant ever changes his mind and decides to explore Westeros.
