If you're looking to upgrade your TV, a 4K model with HDR should be a top consideration. Today, Roku introduced two new streaming boxes capable of delivering 4K and HDR content directly to your TV, reaffirming the importance of these features.
Of all the products that have been leaked repeatedly in recent months, only Roku’s streaming stick remains unchanged. These new set-top boxes will replace Roku's entire product line. Here's a quick look at what’s new:
The Roku Express replaces the Roku 1. It’s now 75% smaller, yet offers double the processing power. While it supports 1080p HD streaming, it doesn’t do 4K. Priced at $30, there’s an option to add composite support for an extra $10.
The Roku Premiere takes over from the Roku 2. Priced at $80, it streams 4K content at 60 frames per second. With a quad-core processor, it also includes Roku’s standard IR remote.
The $100 Roku Premiere+ replaces the Roku 3. This model offers HDR support alongside its 60fps 4K capabilities and features the beloved IR remote with a headphone jack. It also includes an Ethernet port and a microSD card slot for added convenience.
The Roku Ultra replaces the Roku 4. Priced at $130, it offers 4K and HDR support, with an upgraded remote that includes a “find my remote” feature and A/B buttons for games. The device also supports USB for external hard drives, thumb drives, or NAS devices to store your movies and music.
The new streaming boxes were officially announced today, but won’t ship until October—just in time for the holiday shopping season. These devices will be available on Roku’s website, Amazon, and in physical electronics stores, though the Express will only be sold at Walmart.
