As an avid creator of Apple Music playlists, including both manually curated and "smart" ones, my worst nightmare is accidentally deleting them. Using Hezel is straightforward. Simply launch the app, grant it access to your Apple Music library, and press the backup button. The process is quick—my library of 10,000 songs was backed up in just 2-3 minutes. Once completed, your songs, playlists, and music videos are securely saved within the app.
Hezel makes it simple to restore deleted songs or entire playlists. To test it, I removed a few playlists and checked if Hezel could recover them. The app had a recent backup, and after a brief comparison with my current library, it displayed the missing playlists. With a single tap on the Recover button, the playlists were instantly restored to Apple Music.
I now feel a level of security I never experienced before. The only minor drawback is that after recovering a playlist, the creator’s name changes to Hezel. While slightly inconvenient, it’s not a dealbreaker for me. The developer confirms that all backups are stored on-device, with syncing encrypted through iCloud.
Hezel is available as a free download on the App Store, allowing unlimited backups at no cost. However, the free version limits restorations to the three most recent backups. For automatic backups and access to older backups, an in-app purchase of $5 unlocks these premium features.
