Lewis Carroll's timeless 1865 masterpiece, Alice in Wonderland, is inseparable from its vivid imagery. While Carroll himself crafted the original drawings, numerous artists have reimagined Wonderland's whimsical universe. Among them, Salvador Dalí, the renowned Surrealist, offers a unique interpretation, now available in a special edition.
Originally released in 1865, Alice in Wonderland inspired a 1969 collaboration between Random House and Dalí. Recognizing the book's surreal themes as a perfect match for Dalí's style, the publisher commissioned 12 heliogravures—one for the opening and each chapter. This limited edition, part of Random House's book-of-the-month series, became a prized rarity among collectors.
To celebrate Alice's 150th anniversary, Princeton University Press reintroduced this edition, showcasing Dalí's vibrant artwork. The reissue includes insightful introductions by Mark Burstein, president of the Lewis Carroll Society of North America, and mathematician Thomas Banchoff, making it accessible to a broader audience.
The edition is available for purchase online through Amazon.
