If you shop on Amazon frequently, Prime Membership is highly valuable, especially for the free shipping. But it's not always the best option for everyone. If you're unsure whether the $99 Prime fee makes sense for your purchases, this tool can help you decide.
This calculator comes from Slice, the online shopping tool previously mentioned. To use it, the app requires access to your purchase receipts, meaning you'll need to register and link your email account. You can review their privacy policy here, as they use OAuth for email access, so no password is required.
A company representative also shared the following with us:
For email providers that don’t support OAuth, such as AOL, iCloud/MobileMe, Comcast, and Cox, we store your email password to process receipts. These passwords are securely stored and encrypted in a separate database. Slice’s advanced algorithms only identify receipts, so we only analyze e-receipts, not personal emails (unlike Gmail, which reads all content).
Once you grant it access, the calculator is straightforward. It calculates your total purchases from the past year, shows how much you've spent, and estimates if a Prime membership would save you money on shipping. Keep in mind, deleting receipts from the past year will impact the result. Also, it only factors in shipping costs, so your experience may differ based on other Prime benefits you use.
