Photo credit: Greg DuPreeFrench bread pizza remains a timeless favorite, not only because it’s incredibly simple to prepare, but also because it’s a nostalgic treat that brings back memories of childhood with every bite. The creamy texture comes from ready-made Alfredo sauce, a quick fix for busy weeknights. Then, fresh spinach, red onions, and garlic are added to the sauce, allowing them to soften in the oven’s heat. The finishing touch is a generous portion of fontina cheese, which melts to perfection. With just 10 minutes of hands-on preparation, the oven takes care of the rest.
Ingredients List
-
1 12-oz. loaf French bread, sliced in half lengthwise
-
3/4 cup pre-made Alfredo sauce (like Rana brand)
-
1 cup fresh baby spinach
-
1/3 cup thinly sliced red onion
-
2 cloves garlic
-
4 oz. fontina cheese, shredded (roughly 1 cup)
-
1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
-
1/8 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
Cooking Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F, positioning the rack about 8 inches from the heat source. Line a large baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place the bread halves, cut-side up, on the baking sheet. Spread the Alfredo sauce on the cut sides of the bread. Add the spinach, onion, and garlic, and top it all with cheese.
-
Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbling and the cheese has melted. Then, increase the temperature to broil and cook for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is golden and the edges are crispy. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. Sprinkle with fresh thyme and crushed red pepper. Slice each half into 4 pieces.
