While I appreciate the notion of taking a break from my desk to exercise, I often fail to act on it. Recently, I came across a Chrome extension named WFH Wakeup (also available as a Mac app) that simplifies this process.
By default, the app notifies you every 55 minutes (adjustable) and suggests a trio of exercises. Priced at $4, it offers a one-day free trial, allowing you to test whether it suits your routine or feels too intrusive.
I’ve experimented with similar apps, but WFH Wakeup stands out for its effectiveness. It provides a five-minute and a 30-second warning before each break, with the option to postpone if you’re busy. Additionally, a prominent pause button is available for times like presentations or Zoom meetings.
Once the timer ends, a full-screen display appears, similar to the image shown earlier. It doesn’t force you to stop working but gently nudges you to consider a quick exercise session, offering three tailored suggestions. These can range from upper or lower body exercises to stretches or core workouts. You can treat this as a mini workout, gradually completing a full routine throughout the day, or simply perform the suggested exercises briefly before resuming your tasks.
