Prime Day is approaching, with discounts available on October 8 and 9. To take advantage of these Prime-exclusive deals and additional benefits such as free shipping, streaming music through Amazon Music, video content through Amazon Video, and gaming perks via Prime Gaming, you will need an active Prime membership.
Amazon provides a 30-day free trial for new users who haven't been a Prime member in the past 12 months, making it a perfect way to access Prime Day offers and potentially cancel before your subscription renews for a monthly or yearly fee. Just be sure to cancel before the trial period ends to avoid any charges.
How to create an Amazon Prime account
To begin, visit the Amazon Prime landing page and select either Start your free 30-day trial or Try Prime free for 30 days. If you aren’t logged in, you'll be prompted to either sign into your existing Amazon account or create a new one. For account creation, you’ll need to provide your name, email, and a password.
After clicking Create your Amazon account, Amazon will send a one-time password (OTP) to your email to verify your identity. Copy the OTP from your email, enter it on the following page, and click Verify. You’ll also need to enter your payment details (debit or credit card) to finalize the registration process.
What is the cost of an Amazon Prime membership?
If you’re not eligible for a 30-day trial or plan to keep your Prime membership for longer than one month, you'll need to choose a payment plan. Amazon offers four options:
Prime Monthly: $14.99 per month
Prime Annual: $139 per year (equivalent to about $12 per month)
Prime Student Monthly: $7.49 per month (students can also take advantage of a six-month free trial)
Government assistance recipients: $6.99 per month (with eligibility letter or EBT card)
With a Prime account, you gain access to exclusive Invite-Only Prime Deals, the ability to share your Prime perks with family members (even if they don’t live in the same household), and the option to set price alerts for your favorite products.
