While the Xbox Game Pass offers an excellent gaming experience on PC, it comes with certain limitations. The Xbox app restricts users from selecting custom installation folders, allowing only the choice of a drive. For those who prefer a more organized setup, there are workarounds to bypass this restriction.
To install Game Pass games in a custom folder, you’ll need to switch to a beta version of the Xbox app. Although this feature might eventually be included in the stable release, the beta version is currently the only option. Be cautious, as beta builds can introduce app instability, including bugs or crashes. While this specific beta version has been stable for us, it’s important to understand the potential risks before diving in.
To access the beta build of the Xbox app, you’ll need to install the Xbox Insider Hub on your PC.

After installing the app, navigate to the Previews section in the left panel. From there, choose Windows Gaming listed under the Available category on the right.
Once you’re on the Windows Gaming preview page, click Join. The button will transition to Pending during the process and finally change to Manage once completed. After this, close the Xbox Insider Hub.
Launch the Microsoft Store on your PC and select the Library tab on the left. After a brief wait, Gaming Services will appear on the right. The installation will proceed automatically, requiring no further action from you.
Once Gaming Services is installed, reopen the Xbox app. Click the profile icon located near the minimize button at the top and choose Settings.
In the Xbox app settings, go to the General tab on the left. Scroll down to the Game install options section on the right. Here, you can activate Use advanced installation and management features to install games in your preferred folder.
After enabling this option, use the drop-down menu under Change where this app installs games by default to pick any drive on your PC. Then, click the Change Folder button below the drive selection menu to choose a specific folder for game installations.
