When it comes to racking up massive winnings on Jeopardy!, James Holzhauer has set the bar. On April 17, 2019, he earned a staggering $131,127, a record that placed him at the top for highest single-game winnings. In fact, no other contestant even came close: throughout his 32-game streak that year, the professional sports gambler dominated, claiming every spot in the top 10 single-game earnings list.
While Holzhauer's 32-game streak fell 42 games short of breaking the record for most consecutive wins, a title held by Ken Jennings since his 74-game run in 2004, it was still enough to secure second place at the time. However, in 2021, two other fierce Jeopardy! contenders edged in between Holzhauer and Jennings. Matt Amodio racked up 38 consecutive victories before losing to Jonathan Fisher.
“[Ken Jennings has] always been the face of Jeopardy! to me,” Amodio said upon surpassing Holzhauer’s streak. “So, when I think of Jeopardy!, I always think of him, [and] to be just behind him is such a surreal feeling.”
But Amodio is no longer right behind Jennings. Earlier this year, Amy Schneider went on a remarkable 40-game streak, securing the silver medal and becoming the first woman to win more than $1 million on the iconic quiz show.
The newest entrant into the ‘most consecutive wins’ ranks is Mattea Roach, a 23-year-old tutor from Canada. Her extraordinary 23-game streak ended in early May, earning her a spot among the all-time top five players.
