Kristen Wiig is set to host Saturday Night Live for the fifth time on Saturday, April 6, 2024, officially joining the prestigious Five-Timers Club. This brings the total number of members to 26, with a notable exception: Paul Simon, who has hosted four times but is still recognized as a member due to his nine appearances as a musical guest and five special cameos. Simon even played a role in inducting Tom Hanks and Justin Timberlake into this exclusive group.
According to People reports, Tom Hanks first “unveiled” the Five-Timers Club during his 1990 monologue, mentioning Paul Simon, Steve Martin, and Elliott Gould as members. By then, Buck Henry, Chevy Chase, and Candice Bergen had also achieved the five-time hosting milestone.
Over the years, approximately 20 more individuals have joined the club. These include former cast members like Kristen Wiig, Bill Murray, Tina Fey, and Will Ferrell, as well as recurring celebrity hosts. Alec Baldwin, for instance, has hosted 17 times and made numerous special appearances.
When a host is about to reach their fifth appearance these days, it’s almost guaranteed that a few current Five-Timers Club members will make special appearances during the episode. Tina Fey and Steve Martin are regulars, often seen sporting the club’s iconic smoking jackets. Emma Stone received her jacket from Fey and Candice Bergen.
