For Muggles still dreaming of their Hogwarts letter, this is the ultimate opportunity: the original acceptance letter from the first Harry Potter movie is available for purchase. This rare piece is among several Harry Potter props being auctioned by the Prop Store in London on September 26.
In the 2011 film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, young Daniel Radcliffe, as Harry, is overwhelmed by a flood of Hogwarts letters sent to his cupboard under the stairs at 4 Privet Drive. The prop being auctioned is the actual letter Radcliffe holds in the movie, identifiable by its red wax seal, now partially broken. The envelope, crafted from marble-effect paper, features Harry’s address in green ink and the Hogwarts crest on the back.
Prop StoreThe auction will also feature other coveted Harry Potter memorabilia, including Ron’s howler letter from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), crew apparel signed by Daniel Radcliffe, and a crew gift poster from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010), all part of the Prop Store’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction at London’s BFI IMAX.
The Hogwarts letter has a starting bid of £1500 ($1960), with estimates placing its final sale price between £3000 and £5000 ($3930 and $6550). Interested bidders can view the item during the free preview exhibition at Waterloo’s BFI IMAX, running from September 7 to September 26.
