You can now access a summary of your tax return (and other transcripts) online using the IRS’s newly upgraded tool.
The IRS had previously disabled the ‘Get Transcript’ tool due to identity theft concerns, but the tool has now been reintroduced with enhanced security measures.
After being temporarily disabled last spring, the Get Transcript Online service is now available once again, allowing users to retrieve their tax transcripts and other related documents summarizing key tax return information. The relaunch introduces stronger cybersecurity features, including a more secure access framework. This upgrade requires a two-step authentication process for all tools that demand high-level assurance.
To verify your identity, you must provide your social security number, date of birth, and other personal details. Additionally, you’ll need to authenticate your account through a mobile phone registered in your name.
A tax transcript is essentially a summary of your tax return and can be useful when applying for a mortgage or student loan. You may also need it to access other important tax details, such as your adjusted gross income. Learn more about the different types of transcripts you can access here, and explore the tool via the link below.
