If you're keeping an eye on the news, it's tough to find anything that offers a glimmer of hope. With a viral pandemic, violent riots, and countless lives lost, things are far from positive.
So, why not take a break from all the grim news and focus on the absurd headlines the media has been feeding us instead?
These ten stories may have serious undertones, but the headlines themselves are so outrageous, they'll probably have most readers laughing out loud. And just so you know, the order doesn't matter.
10. 'Monkeys Seize COVID-19 Blood Samples After Attacking Lab Worker In India'

Many people who are only familiar with monkeys from zoo visits may not understand just how bold they can be when it comes to humans in crowded places like Uttar Pradesh, India. Monkeys are known to approach people and snatch items, with their primary interest usually being food. However, they've been known to take anything from cameras and hats to sunglasses and even knives. Essentially, anything they can grab becomes a target, and apparently, that also includes blood samples.
A troop of monkeys rushed a laboratory technician at Meerut Medical College, snatching vials of blood taken from four COVID-19 patients receiving treatment. Fortunately, the researchers managed to retrieve the samples, which showed no signs of damage, so the risk of further spread is minimal. The only real consequence was that the blood had to be collected again. Aside from that, this comical event didn't signal the start of a 'Planet of the Apes' type scenario, making it more amusing than concerning in the end.
9. 'Three Boys Hospitalized After Trying to Gain Spider-Man Superpowers From A Spider Bite'

Normally, when people read about the daring feats of everyone’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, they don't think, 'I could totally do that!' Unfortunately, there's always someone who has a different idea. For three Bolivian boys, they thought they'd speed up the process by turning to the nearest source: a Black Widow spider. The three boys found the spider and began poking it with a stick, hoping it would bite. It worked, and all three were bitten.
Instead of gaining superpowers like a spider, the boys were found by their mother, crying on the ground. While Black Widow spiders don’t grant superhuman abilities, they do pack an excruciating bite. The boys were rushed to the hospital, where they received treatment and were later released. Thankfully, such bites rarely cause severe complications, but in rare cases, they can be fatal. For most people, the bites lead to symptoms like nausea, heavy sweating, severe abdominal and back pain, muscle aches, high blood pressure, and difficulty breathing due to diaphragm paralysis.
8. 'Man’s Attempt to Reheat Food on a Crowded Flight Leaves Fellow Passengers Puzzled'

It's not unusual for passengers to bring snacks, or even a full meal, on long flights. However, a recent story features one passenger who took things to a bizarre level. This particular traveler brought a slice of pizza, and while many might be content to eat it cold, this passenger wanted it heated. But instead of asking a flight attendant to use a microwave, the passenger decided to try something else.
A photo of the incident was shared on a Passenger Shaming Instagram account, accompanied by the caption, 'Just warming up some leftovers,' along with an image of the man holding his pizza slice beneath the overhead cabin light. He was attempting to heat it using the tiny LED light above his seat, and apparently, he was serious about the idea. The post received some hilarious comments like, 'You can't fix stupid' and 'That’s an LED light. It doesn’t generate heat,' but the most honest reply was, 'I’m disgusted, but it could definitely be worse.'
7. 'Man Chugs a Liter of Lemon Juice in Under 17 Seconds to Set World Record'

At this very moment, somewhere, someone is attempting to break a world record. The allure of fame and fortune keeps the record-breaking spirit alive, and while some records highlight true accomplishments, others are just ridiculous stunts. This week, one man aimed to gulp down an entire liter of lemon juice in under 17 seconds. Apparently, this was an essential task for him to accomplish if he wanted to see his name in print.
This isn’t lemonade, but pure lemon juice, making it one of the most intensely sour liquids you could drink straight. David Rush accomplished the challenge by downing a liter of the tart liquid in 16.53 seconds, setting a new record and beating the previous 17.12 seconds. Rush has set over 100 Guinness World Records, but his motivation isn’t personal gain; he aims to promote STEM education. As for his attempt, Rush reported that he immediately vomited after completing the challenge and experienced stomach discomfort throughout the rest of the day.
6. 'Car, Illegal Barbecue Found Hidden Under Camouflage Netting'

Criminals sometimes go to extraordinary lengths to conceal their illegal activities, but they often overlook something crucial that leads to their undoing. For Al Capone, it was his failure to pay income taxes, and for a resident of Studland, Dorset, it was the irresistible smell of freshly cooked food. British police uncovered a car and an illegal stove, both hidden under camouflage netting, typically used by the military to obscure vehicles, tents, and equipment from aerial surveillance.
The police shared the details of their discovery on Instagram, writing, 'A busy morning down in Studland. We found an innovative vehicle disguise on Ferry Road today. It wasn’t the camouflage that made us stop, but the stove cooking breakfast that we could smell whilst driving by.' Though it was a daring attempt, the illegal activity was uncovered by the Purbeck Police Department. The use of camo netting to hide the car wasn’t the police’s main concern—the real issue was that using barbecues or other fires is prohibited in the protected area.
5. 'Wife Furious as Husband Plans to Give Unborn Baby 'Most Ridiculous Name Ever''

The internet has brought many things to the world over the years, but one trend that seems especially prevalent in many Western countries is the fascination with bizarre baby names. In a world where everyone strives for uniqueness, common names like 'Michael' or 'Rebecca' just don’t cut it anymore. There have been stories of people naming their children 'Adolf Hitler' and 'Audio Science,' but those are just a glimpse of the strange baby names circulating online. For one couple, with only a few months left before their baby arrives, their choice of a peculiar name is a reference to mathematics.
On one hand, it makes sense, as the husband and his parents are all math experts, but that doesn't make the name any more acceptable. The father wants to name their son 'Cube.' 'Like a Rubik’s Cube,' his wife said. 'I thought he was joking, but he was serious.' The story first appeared on Reddit, where the expectant mother took to the platform to see if others agreed with her assessment that the name was the 'stupidest ever,' or if her husband was right in calling it 'cute.' Reddit users sided with her, with comments like, 'LOL who names their kid Cube? What a blockhead!' following the post.
4. 'Man’s Carbonara 'Abomination' is So Bad Italians Are Left Weeping'

If you're unfamiliar with the dish, one commenter clarified that 'Carbonara is generally made with pancetta, egg yolks, heavy cream, garlic, and plenty of freshly ground black pepper.' [Editor's note: he’s wrong. True carbonara is made with raw eggs, hot pasta water, parmesan cheese, and pepper—no garlic and no cream.] However, that’s not what Steven S served up. His plate consisted of canned spaghetti, a slice of American cheese, and chopped hot dogs. The comments were far from kind, with one user remarking, 'Now that, my friend, is one of the worst things I’ve seen on this page. I wonder what you drank with it—maybe a nice glass of vinegar? Sounds a bit like wine, right?'
3. 'Pair Hired for Man’s Broom Sexual Fantasy Show Up at Wrong Address with Machetes'

You’ve probably heard of people organizing various adult fantasies through websites like Craigslist, and typically, the stories that come out of these situations are funny anecdotes. But what if you planned a specific fetish fantasy, and the individuals you expected to show up didn’t? Instead, imagine they arrived at 6:15 am at the wrong address. Picture yourself waking up to find two men standing in your bedroom with machetes, and you’ll understand the predicament of a man in Sydney, Australia.
The entire situation was a mix-up. The two men had accidentally entered the wrong bedroom to fulfill a stranger’s sexual fantasy, which involved being tied up in his underwear and gently brushed with a broom. Apparently, this is an actual fetish. Had they arrived at the correct bedroom, the world would never have heard about it. However, things didn’t go as planned. The resident did call the police, but only after the men had left, having apologized with a firm handshake. In the end, both men were acquitted of charges, thanks to the evidence that it was all just a harmless mistake.
2. 'India: Officials Claim to Have Captured Pakistan’s 'Spy' Pigeon'

The conflict between India and Pakistan has persisted for decades, with the ownership of Kashmir remaining a contentious issue. Border skirmishes are not uncommon, and each side has accused the other of misconduct since the border was drawn. While this particular headline may seem amusing, it is not without seriousness. For over 3,000 years, pigeons have been used as message carriers, so India’s claim might not be as absurd as it first appears.
The pigeon accused of being a 'spy' was captured by villagers in Manyara, a region near the Pakistan-controlled part of Kashmir. The bird was carrying a message, which India believes may have been coded and sent by Pakistan, although this remains unverified. Senior Superintendent Shailendra Mishra of Kathua Police commented, 'Some believe it was a coded message. In Pakistan’s Punjab, people tie identification tags on pigeons to claim ownership.' Carrier pigeons have previously been used to threaten Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, so it’s not entirely out of the question that this pigeon could be involved in espionage.
1. 'Two Alligators Show Up Knocking On Florida Couple’s Door and Start Fighting'

Most of us assume that when we hear a knock at the door and aren't expecting anyone, it's just a salesperson or someone trying to sell us something. It’s annoying to open the door to someone peddling magazine subscriptions, or even worse, Girl Scout Cookies—though those are impossible to resist and come with many trips to the gym. Still, any of these scenarios would be preferable to what happened when one couple in Florida answered their door this week.
Sue and Joe Geshel from Fort Myers heard a knock at their door, but since they weren’t expecting anyone, they decided to peek outside before opening it. Good thing they did! What they saw were two fully grown alligators battling it out for territory right in front of their door. Definitely not the type of visit you want to interrupt by swinging the door open. Fortunately, the confrontation didn’t end in anything worse than a few startled nerves, and after about 20 minutes, the alligators settled their differences and went on their way.
