From Amalficore to "dark academia," home decorating trends are constantly capturing our attention and inspiring us to refresh our spaces—perhaps even prompting us to buy a few new items. But while the latest trends might seem exciting, they don't always match up with the styles people are actually searching for in home design. So, we analyzed a recent Google Trends report to discover the most searched-for interior design styles of the past month. Here are the top five trends according to Google.
Cape Cod
This design style aligns closely with major trends we've been seeing throughout the past year. Remember the "coastal grandmother" trend? It's still going strong. Cape Cod as an interior style embraces many of the same elements. Picture ocean-inspired blues, soft sandy hues, and natural textures like rattan and jute. With a beachside influence, this design style radiates a light, airy feel, much like the refreshing touch of an ocean breeze.
Luxury Bungalow
The term "luxury bungalow" ranked second in the most popular interior design styles searched in the past month. This style, however, doesn't have a universally recognized image since it's not a typical interior design term. It’s more commonly used in real estate or vacation rental contexts to describe a single-story home nestled in a lush, natural setting. When applied to interior design, like the Cape Cod style, it draws inspiration from its surroundings. Think abundant natural light, vibrant color schemes, plush fabrics, and cozy, inviting furniture designed for relaxation and comfort.
Bauhaus
Bauhaus refers to a German art school that existed from 1919 to 1933. Its revolutionary approach to art, design, and architecture made it a cornerstone of modern design, and the Bauhaus style has become a distinctive movement in its own right. In interior design, Bauhaus is defined by its functional approach to furniture and decor with a clean, minimalist aesthetic. The style typically features bold primary colors and geometric artwork. Fun fact: Mid-century modern design owes much of its influence to the Bauhaus movement, so if you're a fan of that style, you'll likely appreciate this German design legacy too.
Modern Spanish
Modern Spanish interior design blends contemporary and traditional elements. The contemporary side features sleek lines, minimalist furniture, and earthy color palettes, while the traditional side adds rustic charm with materials like terracotta, reclaimed wood, and decorative tiles. While this look is perfect for Spanish-style homes, it can easily be recreated with a few strategic accents and additions.
Modern Japanese
Japanese-inspired interior design has gained significant popularity in recent years. Specifically, the "Japandi" style, which blends Japanese and Scandinavian styles, has been consistently sought after. This style merges the meticulous craftsmanship, serene balance, and minimalist aesthetic of Japanese design with Scandinavian principles like hygge. The result is a cozy, inviting atmosphere with neutral colors, soft textures, and clean, uncluttered spaces.
