Since its debut in 1980, the Rubik’s Cube has been the ultimate puzzle challenge. Composed of multiple colors, the goal is to align each of the six sides into a single solid color. While some solve it in weeks, others achieve it in mere seconds. Now, a new edition, released for the toy’s 40th anniversary, redefines the challenge with its astonishing height of just .39 inches.
Mega House, a Japanese toy company, has launched an officially-licensed Rubik’s Cube in partnership with Iriso Seimitsu Co. Ltd., a precision metalworking firm. This collaboration resulted in a puzzle so small it could fit in a dollhouse. Each colored segment measures a mere .10 inches, and instead of a white side, the metal remains bare, complemented by an engraved Rubik’s logo.
Although fully operational, solving this tiny cube will require exceptionally dexterous fingers.
Priced at 180,000 yen (approximately $1700), Mega House plans to start shipping this miniature cube by the end of December. Additionally, it will be showcased at the Hungarian Cultural Center in Tokyo as part of a 40th-anniversary exhibition, running until November 9. Although currently exclusive to Japan, Mega House aims to expand its availability to other countries in the future.
