Hoka has firmly established itself as a top contender for the comfiest walking shoes. Their signature cushioning, often compared to walking on clouds, has earned praise across the board, with the Clifton 9 being a standout—endorsed by HuffPost’s Lourdes Avila Uribe. But while the Clifton might steal the spotlight, there’s another Hoka style I’m absolutely smitten with. It’s my personal favorite, and despite its relatively low profile, it's a gem that shouldn’t be overlooked. Plus, at just $125 a pair, it’s one of the more affordable Hoka options available.

First released in 2022, the Hoka Solimar has quickly become my go-to walking shoe. As someone who’s been a Hoka fan for years—seriously, I once requested a pair for my birthday—it’s no small feat for a newer model to win me over. The Solimar strikes the perfect balance with a forgiving yet firm midsole, and its extended crash pad is just the right amount of cushioning without making every step feel like a bounce on a trampoline (a problem I had with the now-discontinued Rincon 3). Another plus? Its sleek, low-profile design. Unlike the bulkier look of some Hoka models like the Bondi 8, the Solimar’s streamlined shape gives it a polished look, and at only 6.7 ounces, they’re surprisingly light. I went for the neutral white colorway, which pairs effortlessly with everything from a dress to a more professional outfit. The soles are crafted from durable, high-abrasion rubber, perfect for daily wear, with added padding in the areas that endure the most impact. The breathable mesh upper is made from recycled materials, and the padded collar and tongue provide a comfortable fit without irritating my ankles. After countless 10,000-step walks in these, from city streets to climbing the steep, old stairs of Governors Island, I’ve experienced zero soreness or discomfort. It’s no wonder so many people swear by the Solimar for everyday walking, especially those with plantar fasciitis. I’m already anticipating the day I wear out my current pair, and I’ll definitely be grabbing a second one. You can find the women’s Solimar in up to 11 colors and sizes 5-11, or the men’s in sizes 7-14 at Zappos, Nordstrom, and Hoka, all with regular and wide sizing options. Check out the rave reviews left by other Solimar fans, and you’ll probably find yourself ready to buy a pair for yourself too.
Positive feedback from customers:

"I was initially skeptical about the hype and the high price of Hoka shoes. However, I needed comfort and durability, which I couldn’t find in the other brands I’d worn out, despite spending a lot of money. So, I decided to try a pair of Hokas. The first thing I noticed when opening the box was just how LIGHT these shoes are. Seriously, I think a banana weighs more than both shoes combined! Then there’s the color—blackout style—which I absolutely love. It’s stylish without being too flashy like other shoes. And the best part: putting these shoes on for the first time (with my favorite socks). It felt like stepping onto 10 1/2 clouds at once! (11 clouds might be a little too much.) In conclusion, I’ve had these shoes for about a month now, and they’re the only ones I wear. No foot pain at work, and somehow, I’ve even doubled my daily steps. I was unsure about the price, but I don’t regret it. Thanks, Hoka, for making such a great shoe. I’d be happy to write more awesome reviews for future purchases!" —TJ
