Join us live tonight (Wednesday, October 5) at 10pm ET/PT for the premiere of Penn & Teller's new series: Penn & Teller Tell a Lie on Discovery. In this slightly unstable clip from Comic-Con, you can watch Teller speak (!) about the upcoming show:
A longer preview video awaits you after the jump.
It’s like MythBusters, but with lies.
According to the press release:
Each episode of the show features amazing visual stunts as Penn & Teller present unbelievable stories like: • How have five people been shot by their own dogs since 1990? • Is it possible to lift a 5,000-pound car using just a human hair? • How did ancient Aboriginal Australians discover a cure for snoring? • Can you land a plane if the rudders fail? • What music makes alligators mate? (Hint: It’s not Barry White!) • What happens to Teller when he’s submerged in a tank full of piranhas? And one of these stories will be false. Discovery’s viewers across various platforms will try to uncover the fake story and interact with the program to challenge Penn & Teller. The truth is revealed only at the end of each episode.
This show is a blast – watch strange, scary, and goofy stories being re-enacted and tested (think MythBusters), and vote live online to guess which one is the lie. You can vote via the Discovery website or their iPhone/iPad apps (available through the same link, though no Android app yet, unfortunately). While I haven’t played with the live voting yet, I can see how it adds an engaging social media element to the show (technologists call it ‘co-viewing’ – watching a show with a device in hand). The nature of the show and the voting also make spoilers more dangerous – if you DVR the episode, make sure to watch it soon or the lie will be spoiled!
Check out this preview of the first episode, which airs tonight:
So tune in tonight at 10pm ET/PT and see if you can figure out which story is the lie!
