Surprisingly, before these sleek black marble urinals were installed, the glass windows served as the urinals. A unique drainage system (not clearly visible in the photo) allowed men to relieve themselves in front of the windows without any mess.

Commissioned by the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, New York artist Matt Nolen crafted this unique installation. The restroom features three urinals, three sinks, two stalls, and walls that illustrate the evolution of architectural styles from ancient Egypt to modern times on one side, while the opposite wall showcases the rulers of each era. This restroom gained fame after being highlighted on the Discovery Channel’s ‘The World’s Ten Best Bathrooms.’ The urinal is aptly named ‘Lord.’
8. International Space StationSpaceMore
Astronauts aboard the International Space Station can spend up to six months in orbit, where they eat, sleep, exercise, and maintain personal hygiene. They also perform scientific and technological experiments that rely on the unique microgravity conditions of Earth's orbit. Space within the HabLab is extremely limited, but in a weightless environment, traditional concepts of floors and ceilings disappear, making every surface functional. Equipment is meticulously designed to be compact and fits together seamlessly to maximize the use of available space.
7. Stockholm-Arlanda AirportSwedenMore
The design merges artistry, functionality, and innovation to highlight a stunning aspect of Swedish nature, juxtaposed against the industrial backdrop of concrete and airplanes. The goal is to enhance the ambiance while addressing practical concerns like odor control. Large glass panels minimize gaps, effectively reducing unpleasant smells. As one of Scandinavia's largest airports, Stockholm-Arlanda serves Swedes, who are among the world's most frequent travelers.
6. Women’s Urinal at Dairy QueenFloridaMore
Although it lacks the versatility of a standard toilet, it occupies the same floor area. The shared funnel-like mechanism, used by all, didn’t gain much popularity. Due to these factors, fewer than 700 ‘She-inals’ were sold before Urinette, the manufacturer, transferred the production rights.

4. Public Rest Rooms of RothesayUKMore
Rothesay was a beloved Victorian-era destination, often included in the ‘Island Cruising’ route. It also holds nostalgic value for many as a day-trip hotspot, especially for Glasgow residents who would travel ‘Doon the Water’ until the late 1950s.
3. Nature’s CallCaliforniaMore
Crafted by Clark Sorensen between 2002 and 2005, these urinals are handmade from high-fire porcelain, the same material used in commercial fixtures. Each piece takes nearly a year to complete. Fully functional, they are available for collectors to install in their homes.
2. The Taj MahalIndiaMore
The Taj Mahal, translating to ‘Crown Palace,’ was constructed as the mausoleum for Mumtaz Mahal, the second wife of Emperor Shah Jahan. The monument’s construction spanned 22 years, concluding in 1653. Over three and a half centuries later, it remains a stunning testament to architectural brilliance and is celebrated as one of the Eight Wonders of the World.
1. Amundsen-Scott StationSouth PoleMore
Chris Curtis, who shared this photo, commented:
“…I spent 26 days in Antarctica… capturing [this] image. I believe this fixture deserves admiration. Situated on the highest, driest, and coldest continent, at the planet’s southernmost point, it symbolizes a destination that remained unreachable until the early 1900s, marked by the struggles and sacrifices of explorers. Located in a place truly ‘miles from nowhere,’ no other urinal, even in space, can rival the history and significance tied to its presence at the South Pole. While it may lack aesthetic appeal, its dignity and historical weight are unparalleled.”
