Nail art is a unique way to showcase your style. Though small in size, nails are among the most striking accessories you can wear. Why not explore some of the major nail trends of 2025? We consulted with manicurists to uncover the hottest nail designs, colors, and techniques to look out for in the coming year, helping you decide what to request during your next appointment.
B1. A Bold Nail Art Revival
In recent years, we've seen the rise of "quiet luxury," but now we're noticing a shift, especially when it comes to nail trends.
"I’d definitely keep an eye on the return of bold nail art as younger generations embrace more maximalist trends like the popular 'Y3k' look," says Anna Parvatova, creative director at SNS Nails. "I anticipate nail art experiencing a renaissance, especially as it pairs perfectly with dystopian aesthetics and almost any maximalist fashion style."
2. 3D Nail Designs
Maximalist nail art trends for 2025 include extravagant 3D designs that add texture and flair. Tara Haye, a manicurist at Nailing Hollywood, predicts these designs will feature raised elements, decorative baubles and crystals, cascading pearls, intricate florals, and fruit-inspired accents.
3. Multi-Layered Designs
Alongside the 3D styles making waves in the upcoming months, expect to see a surge in layered nail art. "Layered designs that blend textures, colors, patterns, and finishes to create depth and dimension are set to remain popular in 2025," says Mazz Hanna, manicurist and founder of Nailing Hollywood. "This trend brings a luxurious vibe and offers limitless opportunities to get creative with your nails."
4. Chrome Nail Finishes
Chrome nails are here to stay. "A chrome topper can be applied over any base coat, creating endless possibilities," says Rose Herr, founder of Polished. "We saw red and green chrome nails during the holiday season, but expect these shades to shift to lighter tones for spring and summer. If you're not into intricate nail art, a chrome finish can take your basic manicure to a whole new level of trendiness."
5. Metallic Nail Accents
Metallic accents continue to reign supreme in 2025, bringing shine to every nail design. "Metallic nails will remain popular because they add just the right amount of edge to any look," says Hanna. "Whether it's chrome tips, foil detailing, or full metallic finishes, these designs always feel bold and contemporary." Don't forget to experiment with the cat eye and velvet nail trends too.
6. Eco-Friendly Formulas
Vegan and eco-conscious nail products continue to rise in popularity. "These products have gained traction in recent years as more people adopt greener lifestyles," says Tara Haye. "If you haven't made the change yet, now is the perfect time to do so. Your nails and the planet will appreciate it."
7. A Variety of Red Shades
TikTok introduced us to the 'red nail' theory, and it quickly became a trend worth trying! "Red is a timeless nail color, but there are countless variations beyond the traditional red of our grandmothers," says Rose Herr. "Rich reds like wine and cherry cola will stay popular through the winter. For spring, experiment with vibrant red shades that have pink (cool) or orange (warm) undertones."
8. Short, Rounded Nails with Deep Colors
Short, rounded nails in deep shades like red, espresso, or navy offer a mix of boldness and refinement. "Darker hues are rich and elegant, making this style perfect for those seeking a polished look without the need for long extensions," explains Hanna. She believes this option is ideal for those who favor subtle, practical designs while still embracing the maximalist trend.
9. The Lasting Appeal of Minimalism
Though 2025 is all about bold, statement-making nails, Parvatova notes that neutral and minimalist styles still have a place. "Earthy shades are particularly versatile and can easily complement any outfit," she says. "They’re also great for professionals who want a chic look that doesn’t attract too much attention."
10. Browns Everywhere
Brown reigns supreme in minimalist nail trends. "Pantone’s 2025 Color of the Year, 'Mocha Mousse,' will definitely make its mark in nail art," says Herr. "With so many stunning brown shades to choose from, we expect to see even more of them this year. A deep brown manicure offers an elegant and on-trend neutral option."
