“Tall shaft boots are making a strong comeback,” says Elliot Staples, senior vice president and creative director of J.Jill. “While ankle boots have ruled recent fall seasons, the resurgence of ‘90s nostalgia has revived the taller boot style, offering a fresh look whether in heeled or flat versions.” Style them with midi dresses or straight-leg jeans for a chic ensemble.
2. Mary Janes
Channeling ‘90s vibes, Mary Jane flats are a standout winter shoe trend this year. With countless variations available, there’s a style for everyone, even if you think they’re “not your thing.”
“This season, Mary Jane flats feature bold buckles, rhinestone embellishments, and glossy finishes,” says Michael Mack, style expert and president of Max Pawn Luxury in Las Vegas. “Pair them with jeans and a blazer for work or with tights and a mini skirt for a stylish evening look.”
3. Cozy Textures and Fits
Winter is the perfect time to indulge in warm, inviting textures and styles. This season, shearling-lined coats, teddy jackets, and snug footwear are stealing the spotlight. Imagine plush shoes designed for outdoor wear but exuding luxury hotel elegance, or boots and loafers adorned with faux fur accents. Comfort is key, and it’s definitely in style.
4. Designer Sneakers
Sneakers might seem unexpected for winter, but designer sneakers are making waves by blending comfort, style, and versatility into everyday looks.
“This season, sneakers are trending in bold colors like red, eye-catching patterns such as leopard print, and premium materials like suede,” says Thy Mitchell, fashion expert and founder of Foreign Fare. “While winter fashion often favors darker tones, these vibrant and patterned sneakers bring a lively energy to any outfit.”
5. Leopard Print
Leopard print is undoubtedly the standout pattern this season, appearing on everything from long coats to sweaters and even nails. Footwear is no exception, with shoes embracing this bold, spotted trend.
“Leopard print has always symbolized luxury. As part of the ongoing quiet luxury aesthetic trend, it’s now reaching new heights in both clothing and accessories this season,” explains Staples.
6. Biker Boots
Biker boots are another bold footwear choice, perfectly aligning with the grungy ‘90s revival sweeping the fashion world. These chunky platform boots come in various styles, featuring details like metal spikes and oversized buckles. They’re not just shoes—they’re a statement accessory.
7. Loafers
Similar to sneakers, loafers remain timeless. This season, however, they’re getting a modern update with new colors, textures, and patterns, according to Staples.
Mitchell echoes this sentiment, highlighting the growing popularity of platform loafers. “Platform loafers blend classic sophistication with a contemporary twist,” Mitchell explains. “They’re bold yet comfortable, making them perfect for both daytime and evening looks.”
8. Office Pumps
Perhaps inspired by the office siren trend from last year, professional attire is making a strong comeback this season, with pumps playing a key role.
“Designers are elevating pumps by introducing unique elements, such as subtly curved heels or transforming them into kitten heels, ensuring they remain stylish yet comfortable for everyone,” Mack notes.
He also emphasizes that pumps can elevate any outfit, whether you’re dressing for work or a casual outing. Pair them with a black minidress and tights for a festive event, or style them with cropped jeans and a blazer or cardigan for a chic, everyday look.
