1. Radiant, Natural Skin

The backlash against the Instagram-glam style has been ongoing for several years, with glowing skin trends evolving from 'dewy dumpling' to 'glazed donut.' This natural glowing skin look is set to continue in 2024, says celebrity makeup artist Sarah Egan, ambassador for Hi Beautiful You. 

“This year, I’ve noticed a distinct move away from heavy foundations that mask natural skin tones,” Egan shares. “My clients are embracing their skin, which is why skin tints have become my go-to for almost every makeup look, whether natural or glam.”  

2. Bare Lips

The ideal match for fresh, glowing skin is soft, moisturized nude lips, according to professional makeup artist Jordan Plath, head of education at Kryolan. To achieve this, the focus should be on lip care with gentle exfoliating scrubs and nourishing balms, while opting for sheer glosses and lip tints that allow your natural lip color to shine through. 

3. Playful Girlish Look

Following a year dominated by Barbie, experts predict that the super-feminine energy will continue into 2024. The trend now embraces 'coquette' makeup, which is flirty and playful. Picture rosy cheeks, glossy, bitten lips, doll-like lashes, defined eyes, and soft, feathery brows.

4. Silver Glow

Get ready for a heavy dose of silver shimmer on your lids and lips in 2024. It’s the perfect way to elevate your look for special events. “Beyoncé brought this back with her Renaissance tour, and I see this trend continuing and evolving throughout 2024,” says celebrity makeup artist Emily Gray. 

5. Peachy Cheeks

“Peachy, warm blushes will take center stage in 2024, applied generously to the apples of the cheeks and blended over a wider area. Subtle touches of blush will also be added to the eyelids, nose, chin, and forehead to create a glowing, radiant complexion,” explains Plath. This juicy makeup trend owes its inspiration to Pantone’s Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz. 

6. Blue Explosion

In addition to peach and pink hues, prepare to immerse yourself in a sea of cool tones! Blue, in particular, is taking center stage and being used in creative ways. “This color is showing up in colored mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow,” she explains. “I’m a big fan of it, and it really pops on those with brown eyes.”

7. Subtle Grunge

The '90s aesthetic continues to hold strong and is set to grow even more influential in 2024. The iconic ‘grunge’ style of the decade remains a favorite, though it now features a softer, more contemporary twist. 

“We’ll see more messy applications of soft lip gloss in shades like sheer peaches, light berries, and pinks, gently blended beyond the lip line for a soft, blurred finish,” explains Plath. “Smudged eyeliner, bold eyeshadows covering the entire lid, from the lash line to the brow, and ‘brush stroke’ asymmetrical eyeshadows in light blues and teals will all contribute to this edgy, grunge-inspired look.” 

8. Bold Graphic Eyes

You don’t need to be a pro to embrace the graphic eye makeup trend of 2024. Egan suggests it could be as simple as a double cat eye, extended liner, or even choosing a bright liquid liner over your typical brown or black liner. 

“Some of my favorite colors to experiment with around the eyes are blues, greens, and oranges—they really make the eyes pop and grab attention. I think it’s a natural progression from the ‘90s makeup trends we saw take over in 2023. For 2024, it has a more futuristic vibe, almost like something out of outer space.” 

9. Bold Color Accents

“I’m loving the vibrant color accents that models wore on the runway for Spring 2024, especially around the eyes,” says Egan. “You can easily add this trend by opting for a bold lip, bright eyeliner, or even a rosy, strawberry-toned cheek. The pop of color will naturally draw attention, so highlight a feature you love to enhance.”
