If you're on the hunt for a comfortable and supportive chair to keep you going through long work hours, turn to a gamer. Whether streaming live on Twitch or hunting for Easter eggs in League of Legends, gamers spend countless hours in front of their screens. They understand the value of adjustable armrests, breathable seat backs, and excellent lumbar support to maintain a strong and pain-free back, neck, and shoulders during those long gaming sessions. (Plus, many are eager to share their desk chair tips — just check out the gaming chair Reddit.)

A simple search on Google reveals a multitude of “gaming chair” options, some boasting flashy designs and contrast stitching. But YouTuber and Twitch streamer Qcknd cautions against choosing a chair based solely on aesthetics. If you're after a chair that delivers comfort and durability, high-quality “office chairs” are usually your best bet.
“I’ve heard a lot of the ‘gaming chairs’ on the market are more aesthetic-focused over function,” Qcknd, known by her online alias, told HuffPost.
For Qcknd, function means a chair with a high back, adjustable arms, and solid lumbar support. But it also involves considering the chair's longevity. A good desk chair can be quite an investment, so Qcknd recommends opting for a chair that fits various environments, offers replacement parts, and possibly retains a high resale value if you move or eventually replace it.
If you're redesigning your home office or simply seeking a more supportive desk chair, we consulted with Qcknd and other gamers, in addition to reviewing insights on Reddit and Amazon, to find the best chairs for long hours of sitting at a desk or computer.
1.
Herman Miller Embody

Promising review: “When I first started streaming, I didn’t think much about the chair I sat in. I figured as long as it did its job and looked good, it was fine. But I was totally wrong! For the past few years, I’ve been obsessed with my Herman Miller Embody. It’s not only comfortable, but it supports my back and posture, especially during those long gaming sessions.” — Storymodebae, a story-driven game Twitch streamer and YouTuber
Available at Herman Miller for $1,915+ (with four frame/base color options, eight upholstery choices, and three caster types).

3. Razer Iskur gaming chair

4. Steelcase Leap office chair

5. Ikea Järvfjället

Promising review: "I’m currently using an Ikea office chair, the Järvfjället. It features a tall mesh back with adjustable head and lumbar support, but I chose this chair because it’s a minimalist piece that fits perfectly with my home decor and style. I’ve had it for nearly three years, and it still looks great, cleans easily, blends well with the surroundings, and even offers replacement parts through Ikea. If I ever decide to upgrade, it retains a solid resale value in the secondhand market. It was a wise investment at the initial price, and I’d buy the exact same chair again if I ever needed... two chairs for some reason." —Qcknd
Available at Ikea for $369.99 (comes in two color options).
