During the early pandemic years, soft and cozy interiors were all the rage. However, Zillow's latest data indicates a shift in home decor trends for the upcoming year. Discover their insights into the most anticipated home design trends for 2024.
Zillow’s Forecast for 2024 Home Design Trends
To identify the top interior design trends for the next year, Zillow's team analyzed “nearly 300 home features and design styles mentioned in for-sale listings, pinpointing keywords that have surged in frequency compared to the previous year,” as stated in their official announcement.
Here are three key trends to keep an eye on in the coming year:
Murals
Rather than sticking to gray walls paired with white shiplap, Zillow’s findings suggest homeowners are now embracing bold expressions of individuality, particularly through murals. This rise in popularity can be attributed, in part, to the increased accessibility of wallpaper murals.
Brutalism
Following years dominated by comfort-driven aesthetics, Brutalist interior design shifts the focus to raw, industrial elements like concrete floors and exposed materials. Although it may not reach the widespread appeal of styles such as modern farmhouse, Zillow reports a staggering 452% increase in Brutalist design mentions in for-sale listings.
Sensory gardens
Zillow predicts that both sensory gardens and sensory garden paths will gain significant traction in 2024. For those unfamiliar with the concept, here’s how we defined sensory gardens in a 2021 Mytour article:
In essence, a sensory garden is precisely what its name implies: a garden crafted to stimulate all five senses—touch, smell, taste, sound, and sight. There’s no fixed blueprint for creating one; it’s about incorporating specific elements into a new or existing garden to create a fully immersive experience for visitors.
Outdoor spaces remain a top priority for prospective homebuyers, particularly when they combine aesthetic appeal with practicality.
