For convenience, I prefer to get everything I need in one place, even if it means missing out on some discounts. However, many drugstores have affordable enough prices that it's worth planning a monthly trip to grab items on sale.
MoneyTalksNews spoke with Christie Hardcastle, an expert in tracking drugstore deals through her websites WildForWags and WildForCVS. Here are her top recommendations for the best items to buy at drugstores.
Personal care items: These products are often discounted, and retailers like CVS frequently offer cashback deals on a variety of personal care items. Plus, when new items arrive, older products like makeup and hair color are sometimes cleared out at reduced prices.
Drugstore-brand diapers: Hardcastle recommends keeping an eye out for sales where you can get diapers at buy one, get one free offers. When these deals happen, diapers can cost as little as 12 to 13 cents per unit.
Store-brand trash bags: According to Hardcastle, the quality of store-brand trash bags is excellent. Their regular prices are already reasonable, but it's even better if you can take advantage of sales to stock up.
Hardcastle's insights come from her hands-on experience with tracking and documenting prices for her deal-focused websites. While not backed by concrete data, I’ve found her list to be quite accurate based on my own experience.
