Finding the perfect pair of jeans is essential, but it’s often harder than it seems. Trying on numerous nearly identical styles in a fitting room is exhausting, and ordering jeans online can lead to disappointment when the wrong size arrives. Luckily, our experienced team of Mytour shopping experts is here to help you navigate the denim world.
While finding the ideal fit can be tough, we’re here to show you that comfort and style don’t have to be mutually exclusive. We asked our Mytour editorial team to share their favorite brands and retailers, considering aspects like fit, comfort, range, and price. After analyzing their responses, we curated a list of 14 denim brands worth considering, many of which are available at various retailers.
We also consulted fashion experts like Liz Teich, stylist at The New York Stylist, and Erin Stoll, the personal stylist behind Style Thief Fashion, for additional guidance on what to look for when buying a truly exceptional pair of jeans.

The Curve Love Denim line offers an additional 2 inches of fabric at the waist, making it the perfect choice for those with wider hips and a smaller waist.
The return policy is a bit restrictive, as you only have 30 days from the date you receive the shipment confirmation email, not the actual delivery date.
Good news for all those who were loyal Abercrombie & Fitch fans in the early 2000s: the brand has made an impressive comeback. It was voted the fan favorite in our survey and remains a top choice for three of our editors.
A large part of Abercrombie’s return to prominence is due to its wide variety of fits and styles, including loose, baggy, straight, skinny, and many others. The brand also offers an inclusive range of sizes, with waistbands from 23 to 37 and five length options, from extra short to extra long. Home director Erica Finamore has come to really appreciate the brand's wide range of lengths: 'Do I sometimes feel like I’m back in 2004 when I buy jeans from Abercrombie? Yes. But their products are far better now—there are so many styles, and they even offer shorter versions, which is perfect for people who are, say, 5-foot-2.'
For those with a smaller waist and wider hips, finding jeans that fit both can be a challenge. Fortunately, the Curve Love Denim collection is tailored for curvy figures. Editorial apprentice Megan Lenzi calls this collection a game changer. 'The waist is more tapered, creating an hourglass shape,' she explains. 'And on top of that, the denim has just the right amount of stretch, making them comfortable enough for everyday wear.'
Senior shopping editor Lily Gray also praises the fit and durability of the Curve Love collection, recommending that those with wider hips and a smaller waist size down. 'The Curve Love fit is a lifesaver because it includes an extra 2 inches of fabric at the hips,' she says. 'And after weeks of wear, the waist doesn’t stretch out, unlike many other popular brands.'
The website is user-friendly, showcasing a wide variety of jeans to suit any preference. Most jeans are priced at $90, which is a bargain for their high-quality fabric. Additionally, their 30-day return policy (starting from the shipment confirmation email, not the actual delivery date) ensures peace of mind.

Made in California, these jeans offer exceptional craftsmanship and quality.
The price is relatively high, and the range of styles is somewhat limited.
The finest denim is durable and a great investment. AYR jeans, made in California, stand out with their premium quality. They offer a selection of jeans in blue, black, and white washes, mostly in straight or flare styles. However, the website features just 33 pairs of jeans and five pairs of jean shorts, which is a more modest selection compared to others. Waist sizes range from 24 to 34, with varying inseam lengths, some offering inseams from 25 to 29 inches, others offering regular or long lengths, and some are categorized by height.
After trying the brand a few years ago, food director Jenna Helwig has since added three more pairs to her collection. Her favorite styles are The Beat and The Pop, both providing great shape and flexibility. "They're incredibly well-made, crafted in California, and fit perfectly," she says. "I practically live in them, so they're worth every penny!"
These jeans come at a higher price point, making them some of the priciest on our list. Fortunately, the 30-day return policy ensures you have some flexibility to feel confident in your purchase. Additionally, shipping is free for orders above $75, which should be easy to meet.

The eco-conscious brand provides an easy way to filter by category.
Jeans are not offered in various inseam lengths.
If you're searching for a specific type of denim, you may not want to spend too much time sifting through endless options. Citizen of Humanity’s denim section is perfect for those with a clear vision, offering filters to narrow down jeans by closure, color, fabric, fit, length, rise, stretch, and wash. But don't stress if you don't know exactly what you want—just scroll through their full range of selections.
Most of the brand’s jeans are made with 100% organic cotton, which ensures both comfort and longevity. Waist sizes range from 23 to 34, and each style is available in different washes, from light to dark shades. Additionally, the website provides a "looks like" and "feels like" section under each product, offering valuable insights before purchasing. Just keep in mind that varying inseam lengths aren't available from the brand.
After struggling to find the perfect fit, features editor Melissa Matthews turned to Rent the Runway to explore different denim styles without a long-term commitment. Once she tried Citizen of Humanity’s Beverly Slouch Boot jeans, she knew they were a keeper. “They fit just right in the waist, hips, and thighs, which almost never happens for me,” she says. “I received a ton of compliments from friends, some of whom had never even commented on my jeans before!”
The company is committed to sustainability, employing regenerative farming methods and using recycled cotton. These eco-friendly practices likely account for the higher price tag, with most jeans priced over $250. While the cost is considerable, the brand’s commitment to quality and sustainable production makes it worthwhile. Plus, they offer a 30-day return policy and free shipping.

Everlane offers essential styles at an affordable price point. With just under 100 products in its denim selection, the brand features straight-leg, flared, relaxed, curvy, high-rise, and cheeky options. While the abundance of options may feel overwhelming, you can filter by size (23 to 35), style, and color. Unlike other brands that only have basic blues and blacks, Everlane offers more vibrant hues, including brown, green, gray, pink, red, and tan. “It's no secret that Everlane has great jeans—I just love the way they fit and how many washes/cuts they come in,” says senior home editor Hannah Baker.
Along with its various denim styles, the brand also features a curvy section, with an adjusted hip-to-waist fabric ratio suitable for people with wider hips. Some of the jeans also come in various inseam lengths. For those who prioritize sustainability, each pair of jeans is clearly labeled with its corresponding attributes, making it easy to know exactly what you’re purchasing.
Everlane offers free shipping on orders over $100, which shouldn’t be too hard to reach. It also has a 30-day return policy, though mail-in returns do cost an additional $7.

While you can always head to an Express store to try on jeans, many styles are only available for online shopping. Fortunately, the 30-day return policy ensures you can confidently experiment with different looks from the comfort of your home.

The sophisticated jeans come in classic, petite, and tall sizes.
The brand doesn’t offer heavily distressed, baggy, or ripped denim styles.
Known for their well-tailored clothing, J.Crew’s collection of jeans is just as refined. Among the standout styles are the trouser jeans, featuring a pintuck seam down each leg, and the slim wide jeans, which provide a relaxed fit without being overly loose. Another favorite is the signature patch pocket with the iconic crest button.
With sizes ranging from 23 to 37 and offering three lengths—petite, classic, and tall—J.Crew provides a wide range of fits. Executive editor Lisa Freedman has found that the brand’s jeans, particularly the Skinny Flare Jean and 9-Inch Toothpick Jean, fit her well: “I legit have the hardest time finding jeans. I guess I have wide hips and no butt and skinny legs? By the time I get a pair that fits my waist, my butt and thighs are totally lost in denim! Cool. J.Crew has me figured out!”
If you're after the J.Crew look without the hefty price tag, J.Crew Factory offers an affordable (and equally stylish) alternative. Senior shopping writer Carly Totten is a fan of the brand’s preppy aesthetic and finds that shopping at J.Crew Factory is a great experience. “The styles are more everyday-focused, and the jeans are the BEST,” she shares, adding that the Slim Boyfriend Jean in All-Day Stretch is the most comfortable fit she’s ever tried. “They wash beautifully and become more comfortable as the day goes on without losing shape. They fit well on my 5-foot-2 frame, and they stay in place on my waist, even when I’m moving or sitting. I won’t wear anything else!”
Though J.Crew (and J.Crew Factory) provides a range of sophisticated styles, they might not offer the relaxed, oversized look you’re after. However, if a flattering, work-appropriate fit is what you seek, you can’t go wrong with this well-known brand.

The jeans offer both softness and durability.
The sizing system can be confusing, as some jeans are sized XS-XL while others use numeric sizes, making comparisons difficult.
While many brands on our list feature denim as a section, Joe’s Jeans focuses exclusively on it. The brand offers a more detailed categorization than most, with 12 distinct styles, 13 colors, three inseam lengths, and three rise options—high, mid, and low. Additionally, there are five variations of stretch, ranging from comfort stretch to super stretch. Some jeans are available in sizes XS to 2X, while others are available in numeric sizes from 23 to 34, so finding the ideal fit may be a bit tricky.
After discovering the brand at Anthropologie and later renting it from Nuuly, shopping editorial director Nicole Lund can confirm that Joe’s Jeans are definitely worth the investment. “These jeans are incredibly high quality and so soft—far softer than any other denim I've worn,” she shares. “They look just as good as they did when I first bought them, which really shows their durability. Plus, they're super flattering!” And yes, she ultimately decided to keep them from Nuuly.
Joe’s Jeans is widely available at retailers like Nordstrom and Amazon, making it easy to get your hands on a pair. The brand offers free shipping for orders over $150, along with a 30-day return policy (note: returns will incur a $7 deduction from your refund).

Levi’s offers the most inclusive size range on our list and is available at numerous department stores, so you can try on the jeans before making a purchase decision.
The jean styles are often named using numbers—such as 312, 501, 711—making it tricky to know exactly what each style represents.
When we think of jeans, Levi’s immediately comes to mind. Established in the mid-1800s, the brand aimed to create denim 'built to endure anything.' After testing their jeans, we can confidently say they’ve succeeded. Levi’s offers a broad range of styles, from relaxed boyfriend jeans to bootcut flares. “You just can't beat a classic. Even better: A classic that's constantly evolving but still feels timeless,” shares editor-in-chief Lauren Iannotti.
In addition to offering a wide variety of styles, Levi’s excels with its impressive size range. Waistbands are available from 23 to 38, with plus sizes ranging from 14S to 26L. The brand also caters to both petite and taller individuals with inseam lengths ranging from 26 to 34 inches. You can even filter jeans by features, such as material or stretch, with options like plant-based materials. This level of specificity ensures that shoppers can easily prioritize their needs.
Unlike brands that focus on just one 'specialty' style, Levi’s proves it has something for everyone. Iannoti has become a fan of various Levi’s styles, showcasing their versatility: 'I have high-waist skinnies I’ll never let go of—sorry not sorry. I also own dark wash Ribcages that feel like something Marilyn Monroe would have worn (I call them my 'grandma jeans'), and more recently, I’ve been loving the Wedgies, which are minimal-stretch, mostly cotton jeans that feel like 501s but more tailored. They’re stylish and current, but they make the 80s rocker chick in me so happy.'
One of the main benefits of Levi’s jeans is their accessibility. The brand is carried by numerous department stores like Macy’s, Kohl’s, and Nordstrom, so you can try them on before you decide to buy. Plus, if you change your mind, Levi’s offers a 30-day return policy with free returns.
Levi’s Picks:

Madewell is a denim powerhouse, offering an extensive range of styles and sizes. It caters to curvy, tall, petite, and plus sizes, ensuring there's something for everyone. Madewell stands out for its wide price range, with options spanning from $98 to $585. This versatility appeals to a variety of budgets. Shopping editorial director Nicole Lund, a long-time fan, says the brand offers great value: “They fit so well, last for years, and strike a perfect balance between pricey and budget-friendly,” she explains. Her go-to is the Perfect Vintage Jean, a timeless classic. “As a millennial, I appreciate that it’s not too skinny nor too baggy, and it pairs well with anything.”
Shopping writer Stephanie Osmanski echoes the praise for Madewell, highlighting the brand’s quality as worth the investment. “The quality is excellent, and I prefer paying a bit more for denim that fits better and lasts longer,” she shares. “Plus, Madewell offers such a diverse range of styles that I can always find the perfect pair depending on the silhouette I'm craving.”

The website offers a 360-degree view of the jeans worn by a model and gives you the option to "shop the look," allowing you to easily find and purchase other items worn by the model.
You can only filter by pants or denim, but there isn’t a combined filter for denim pants specifically.
Mother jeans go beyond simple basics, featuring distinct details that set them apart. The brand offers seven fit options, two fabric choices (stretch and rigid), two rises (high and mid), four inseam lengths (cropped, ankle, regular, and long), and two hem styles (frayed and step fray), catering to a wide range of styles and preferences. Jeans are available in sizes 23 to 34.
The website provides detailed photos of the model wearing each pair of jeans, complemented by a 360-degree video that lets you see the jeans in action. This feature gives a more realistic perspective of the fit. Additionally, a "frequently bought together" section under each product makes it easy to discover pieces that are often worn alongside the jeans for style inspiration.
The jeans are flattering and offer a polished, upscale look. Beauty director Heather Muir is a fan of the brand, especially appreciating the fit and comfort of the Hustler Roller Sneak High-Rise Wide-Leg. "I could write a love letter to these jeans," she says. "They're incredibly comfy; they’re slimming; they make my 5-foot-4 frame look taller! The dark wash gives them a dressy vibe, so I wear them constantly at the office."
Although the price point is on the higher end compared to other brands on our list, Mother offers a 30-day return policy. However, since exchanges are not allowed, you'll need to return the jeans and repurchase them if you'd like a different size.

Old Navy offers the best budget-friendly option in our list and boasts a fantastic maternity line.
The styles tend to be more classic than cutting-edge.
Despite its affordability, editorial director Nicole Lund was impressed by the quality of Old Navy jeans. 'They're surprisingly great and fit wonderfully, plus they are incredibly comfy,' she shares. 'I found them when I was between sizes and didn’t want to splurge on my usual Madewell jeans, and I was so pleased with how much I liked them.' They even offer a 'Wow' section featuring styles priced at $37 or less.
The brand features over 350 timeless jean styles—from skinny to straight, boyfriend to boot cut—ensuring there's something for everyone. However, if you’re looking for the latest fashion trends, this might not be the right spot. Their maternity section is also remarkable, offering stretchy panels that provide varying levels of coverage over the bump. Jeans are available in sizes 00 to 30, with petite, regular, and tall options.
Senior editor Taylor Rock, who had her first job at Old Navy, has witnessed the evolution of the brand’s jeans: 'What used to be flimsy jegging-like fabric has turned into comfy, flattering, and well-fitting styles that rival names like Abercrombie & Fitch, Levi's, and others. People always ask where I get my jeans, and when I say 'Old Navy,' they're shocked. Don’t underestimate Old Navy, folks!'

Zara offers trendy jeans at prices that won’t break the bank.
The website can be overwhelming, and the dressing rooms tend to be chaotic.
Zara is one of the trendiest, yet surprisingly affordable retailers out there. Their fits, washes, and rises are always up to date, so anything you pick will be on trend. Associate editor Hannah Dorough shares that the brand even brings back old trends: 'I’m one of the few people excited about the return of low rise, but I couldn’t find the perfect baggy, early 2000s, low-rise jean until I went to Zara. They had an amazing selection, and I’m obsessed with the jeans I bought (though I only shop online because the stores are too hectic for me).'
If you've ever visited Zara in person, you probably know what Dorough is talking about. The stores are frequently crowded, making dressing room lines long. We also found the online experience to be similarly overwhelming. While there are filters to help with your search, the interface is tricky to use, and the photos of the jeans don’t include models, so you’ll need to click on each item to see how they fit.
Despite the challenging navigation, Zara’s high-quality denim makes it worth it. Associate editor Quinn Gawronski, who struggles to find jeans long enough for her height, is a regular shopper at Zara. 'I’m almost 6 feet tall, and finding jeans long enough can be tough. I love the variety of styles, washes, and cuts they offer,' she says. Although Gawronski praises the brand’s variety, it’s important to note that Zara only carries sizes 25 to 32.
Old Navy Selections:
- High-Waisted Full Length Z1975 Straight Leg Jeans
- TRF Low Rise Straight Cut Jeans
Price Range: $40-$110 | Waist Size Range: 25-32 | Return Policy: 30 days

The jeans feature stretchy material combined with compression technology.
Without the usual zipper and button closure, putting them on may require a little shimmying.
Known for its comfortable shapewear, Spanx also offers an unexpectedly wide range of denim options, from flare to straight, wide-leg to skinny jeans. Each style is available in petite, regular, or tall inseams, with waist sizes ranging from XS to 3X.
The jeans incorporate Spanx's signature core-shaping technology, which enhances and flatters your curves. Unlike other jeans, Spanx jeans don’t feature a traditional button and zipper. Instead, their stretchy fabric allows you to pull them up like leggings or trousers. While this means some shimmying is involved, it eliminates the hassle of dealing with buttons or zippers.
After testing the Spanx Flare Jeans, we were blown away by their comfort, earning them the title of 'the most comfortable jeans we've ever tested.' They offer just the right amount of stretch, combining the compression of shapewear with flexibility. Plus, they maintain their shape and color even after washing. While these jeans may not be the most conventional, we recommend them to anyone looking for stylish, comfy 'undercover' shapewear.

How to Shop for Jeans Like a Pro
Fit
Stoll highlights three key factors that influence fit: fabric, inseam, and rise. When it comes to fabric, Stoll recommends choosing between 100% cotton denim or a cotton blend. Denim blended with spandex or elastane will provide extra stretch. Proper care of natural fibers like cotton ensures a great fit and durability.
Teich shares a similar view: "For jeans, it’s crucial to opt for denim with 80% to 100% cotton. The higher the cotton content, the more flattering and longer-lasting it tends to be. Many people mistakenly believe that stretchy fabrics offer a better fit, but they can cause sagging, puckering, and even highlight imperfections."
She usually selects rigid denim for work and social events because of its polished look, reserving stretchier, more comfortable jeans for weekends or working from home.
The inseam is the measurement from the crotch to the ankle. Different brands offer a range of inseam options, with some specializing in petite or tall sizes. To find your ideal jean length, measure your inseam with a tape measure.
Rise refers to the distance from the waistband to the crotch. High-rise jeans sit at or near the belly button for extra coverage, while low-rise jeans sit on the hips.
Size
It’s easy to get caught up in the size label on your jeans, but Stoll advises not to stress over the number. "The key with jeans is to prioritize the fit over the size," she says. "Instead of choosing the silhouette you think you're 'supposed' to wear, focus on the one that makes you feel your best."
Although people often think certain styles suit particular body types, Stoll rejects those assumptions: "I believe anyone, regardless of body shape, size, or height, can rock any silhouette they choose. The important part is ensuring the fit and length are right for you." Once you understand your big three—fabric, inseam, and rise—finding the perfect jeans becomes much simpler.
She mentions that jeans should fit snugly, not tightly, allowing enough freedom to button, zip, and sit comfortably. As a general rule, Stoll points out, "If you can pull out a lot of fabric from your waist (especially in stretchy jeans), that’s a warning sign." Over time, these jeans will loosen and sag around the butt and crotch, making them easy to slip off without even unbuttoning them at the end of the day.
Style
With so many denim styles available, keeping up with the latest trends can feel overwhelming. Like other fashions, denim trends shift over time, and many past styles are making a comeback. "We're seeing a resurgence of wide-leg and flare jeans, which makes my 90's heart so happy!" says Stoll.
For those who’ve been loyal to skinny jeans for years, transitioning to wide-leg pants might be a challenge. Stoll suggests easing into the change by starting with a wider straight-leg jean, bootcut, or kick-flare style. "If you want your legs to look longer and leaner, nothing beats a flare-leg jean paired with a slight heel," she advises.
Stoll also mentions the growing popularity of barrel-leg jeans, which fit snugly at the waist and ankle but flare out mid-leg. For this look, she recommends pairing them with a cropped or tucked-in top to balance the looseness. Along with fun fits, pastel-colored denim is also on the rise. When exploring new styles, Stoll suggests trying them with affordable brands first to ensure you like them before splurging.
As always, distressed jeans remain on-trend. If you’re aiming for a more lived-in appearance, Teich suggests opting for a vintage, pre-owned pair. While it's possible to distress your own jeans using sandpaper, Teich points out that this method may be more time-consuming and less authentic. Plus, recycling denim is a more eco-friendly option.
Sustainability
Teich highlights the importance of sustainability when selecting jeans. "Denim is the largest contributor to pollution in the fashion industry, due to the vast amounts of water required to make a single pair, the harmful dyes that end up in waterways, pesticides used in cotton production, and the waste generated," she explains.
You can usually find a brand’s sustainability efforts on their website. For instance, Citizens of Humanity uses regenerative farming and recycled cotton. Some of Teich’s top sustainable denim brands include Sezane, ME+EM, Faherty, Frame, DL1961, Citizens of Humanity, Reformation, Madewell, Mavi, Agolde, and Toteme.
Once you have a grasp on your big three, Stoll suggests exploring vintage denim options on platforms like Poshmark or checking out local thrift stores.
Budget
Your budget and what you’re looking for will determine how much you’re willing to spend on jeans. "The first thing to ask yourself is: What role do jeans play in your wardrobe?" says Stoll. "Do you wear them every day, or are they just for weekends or occasional use? If jeans are a staple in your wardrobe and you wear them often, it’s worth investing in a higher-quality pair." Many websites allow you to filter jeans by price, so you can start with the most affordable options.
For those looking for a higher-quality pair of jeans, Stoll suggests starting with brands like Madewell and J.Crew, which typically cost around $120 per pair. If you're on a budget, retailers like Abercrombie and Old Navy offer more affordable options—Old Navy even has a section dedicated to jeans priced below $37.
While it's possible to find jeans under $100, Teich cautions that anything priced lower might not be ethically or sustainably produced. "On the other hand, just because jeans cost $500 doesn’t necessarily mean they’re superior—you’re often paying for the brand name at that point," she adds.
Take Our Word for It

To gather the best places to buy jeans, we consulted with Mytour's editors, who shared their favorite stores based on factors like fit, comfort, style, price, and return policy.
