When you're working toward a fitness goal, the true measure of progress isn't about today's workout—it's about the consistency you're building over time. The '1 Second Everyday' app can help you visualize this journey.
'1 Second Everyday' is a video diary app originally known for capturing your child's growth. You simply choose a video for each day, cut it down to a one-second snippet, and the app creates monthly and yearly compilations from your moments.
I never considered using it for fitness until I saw writer and runner Elizabeth Pagel-Hogan use the app to track a month of daily runs. Inspired, I thought about doing a similar one-month challenge but realized I could use the app to capture my existing workout routine.
Every day, I pick a clip to showcase. Typically, it's the lift I'm most proud of that day, but occasionally, I'll highlight an accessory lift to remind everyone that it's not all about the snatches. Some days, I'll go for a run or swing a kettlebell and try to capture a quick clip. If I don’t have a video, I'll share a still image, like a screenshot of my stats if I used a watch or phone to track my activity.
Rest days are a must for me to share. They’re vital, as they form part of the rhythm in my routine. I’ll often post a photo or a clip from something else I did that day, whether it’s meal prepping, crafting, or simply relaxing. Sometimes I take a walk and record my footsteps in the grass or snow. Another option is to create a card with just the words 'rest day.'
The result is a complete snapshot of my life as an athlete. When I hit a personal record, I’ll make sure to share it, but most days are about the grind and effort. Each month's video becomes a tribute to the consistent work. Try it yourself and see how much progress you're making!
