Cash may often be seen as a thoughtless gift, but it doesn’t have to be. When connected to something meaningful, it becomes far more thoughtful than simply handing someone money.
As Lizzie Post, co-host of the Awesome Etiquette podcast, explained on Credit.com:
It's important to consider why you're choosing to give money and whether the recipient will appreciate it. The goal is for the gift to communicate, 'I know this is what you really wanted because I know you’re saving for something.' It's vital that it doesn’t seem like a generic 'here's cash' gift, without any thought behind it.
There are ways to make it more personalized. For instance, during my trip to Mexico, a friend wanted to gift me a snorkeling experience, but couldn’t find any gift cards. Instead, she printed out some reviews and wrote a thoughtful note explaining why she thought I'd enjoy it, then gave me enough cash to cover the session. It was a wonderful gift! If your recipient is saving for something, you could personalize it by putting the money in a simple piggy bank or by writing a motivating note to help them stay focused on their goal. Cash may seem impersonal, but with a little creativity, it can be made thoughtful. For more ideas, check out Credit.com’s full post at the link below.
