Every Marvel fan vividly recalls the shocking moment in Avengers: Infinity War when Thanos collected all of the Infinity Stones and, with a single snap of his fingers, eradicated half of the universe's population. That pivotal event needed a name, and it was aptly, though simply, called the Snap.
Then, in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the deadly event was referred to as the Blip, causing confusion among fans. To clear up any misunderstandings, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige stepped in to explain the distinct difference between a Snap and a Blip in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with Fandango, Feige elaborated:
"It happened pretty quickly. We initially referred to it as the Blip, but the public began calling it the Snap. We find it amusing that high school students now call this catastrophic, universe-altering event the Blip. We've clarified it now: the Snap is when everyone vanished at the end of Infinity War, and the Blip is when everyone returned at the conclusion of Endgame. That's how we’ve defined the terms."
Spider-Man: Far From Home is the first MCU film to follow Endgame, and it carries the significant responsibility of exploring life after the Blip, as people return to a world that's changed after five years. The survivors aged as expected, but those who were caught in the Blip remained frozen in time. It's a fascinating and intricate new reality, but at least we now know how to talk about it correctly.
