Prepare for a price increase from UPS. The company has announced that rates for ground, air, and international services will rise by approximately 4.9%. However, they will wait until the end of the holiday season before implementing these changes.
Beginning December 26, 2016, UPS will raise its regular daily rates, as well as air, freight rates, and other services such as scheduled pickups and surcharges on large packages. The company shared the news in a press release.
The average increase for UPS® Ground service daily rates will be around 4.9%.
UPS Air and International services will also see a daily rate increase of approximately 4.9%.
The Additional Handling fee will now apply to UPS Air and International packages with the longest side exceeding 48 inches, down from the previous 60 inches.
The price hike will actually take effect sooner, on September 9, for packages over 150 pounds in the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Additionally, retail rates and UPS SurePost rates will also rise, with further details to be announced in November. You can view the full list of rate changes here, and for more information, check out the press release below.
