Effective money management goes beyond just making your own coffee, but many of the small actions we take every day contribute significantly to our overall financial well-being.
One habit I’ve previously written about is receiving daily text updates with my account balances and email summaries of my financial activity. While I don't always check the emails, they serve as a helpful reminder, especially on days when my spending gets out of hand.
Additionally, apps like Trim, Clarity Money, and Credit Karma have made tracking different aspects of my finances—such as subscriptions, credit scores, and more—much easier and more convenient.
I’ve also started carrying cash with me, as many bodegas and street vendors in New York only accept cash or require a minimum purchase to use a card. This means I sometimes find myself buying extra drinks just to meet the minimum when all I wanted was a $3 bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, but only had a dollar and change on me.
I also spend quite a bit of time reading financial content to explore new ideas and different perspectives on managing money, which proves valuable over time. (Recently, I really enjoyed this article written by a former coworker and found this story from an Uber driver whose wages were garnished both insightful and eye-opening.)
How about you? What are some of the small things you’ve been doing that have made a positive difference in your financial life?
