Businesswoman Interacting with a Digital Display

Just as your fingerprint consists of the unique patterns on your fingertips, your facial fingerprint is made up of the various lines and markings on your face. This includes wrinkles, fine lines, and dry skin that signal aging.
Similar to how detectives gather fingerprints from a crime scene to solve a case, you can capture your face's fingerprint to assess your skin's health. Begin by thoroughly washing your face to remove any dirt, oil, makeup, and moisturizer. Any residue can interfere with the results. Once your face is completely dry, take a piece of clear tape about 3 inches (7.6 cm) long and press it vertically on your face, from your hairline to the space between your eyebrows. Gently peel off the tape and examine it for skin lines and dry cells. Repeat the process on other areas of your face, such as your cheekbones, upper lip, and temples [source: Oz].
Observe what your facial fingerprint reveals about your skin's health. Does it reflect the smooth, wrinkle-free surface typical of someone in their thirties? Or does it display the fine lines and dryness associated with aging? If so, there's still time to reverse the signs. Start by moisturizing regularly and applying sunscreen before heading outdoors. After a few weeks of refining your skincare routine, take another look at your facial fingerprint.
Your facial fingerprint is a simple way to assess the current state of your skin and serves as a reminder that healthy skin requires attention. For more information on skin age and skincare, check out the helpful links on the next page.
