Naturally, Game of Thrones bagged another Emmy Award this week for Outstanding Drama Series, marking its third win in this category. Unsurprisingly, George R.R. Martin—the author of the books that served as the foundation for the TV show and also the series' executive producer—joined the cast in celebrating the honor.
For those who might not be familiar with Martin's work, he is the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, the epic fantasy saga that gave rise to the Game of Thrones adaptation. Simply put, we owe him for the wild seven-year ride we’ve been enjoying.
At 70 years old (celebrating his birthday yesterday, September 20th), Martin boasts a long career as a writer, which includes a number of screenplays and TV pilots before A Song of Ice and Fire, a series he reportedly wrote with The Lord of the Rings in mind, according to Daily Mail.
Frazer Harrison, Getty ImagesIn 2007, Martin sold the rights to his A Song of Ice and Fire series, and his substantial net worth is largely thanks to the success of his books and the Game of Thrones TV adaptation. So how much is this celebrated author really worth? As per Daily Mail, Martin earns about $15 million annually from the TV series, along with another $10 million from his literary achievements.
As reported by Celebrity Net Worth, Martin's total net worth is approximately $65 million.
Despite his wealth, Martin leads a relatively simple life, clearly driven by his passion for writing.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Martin for crafting one of the most thrilling and emotionally intense storylines we've ever encountered. We only wish Game of Thrones could have lasted for 13 seasons as well!
