It’s incredible to build enough muscle from weightlifting or hockey to see your glutes and thighs grow. But, it's not so great when you can't fit into your clothes anymore, and none of the jeans in stores seem to work for you.
Professional hockey players often struggle with store-bought jeans, which we know thanks to Emily Kaplan who asked hockey players about their fit challenges. Fortunately, a pro player’s paycheck usually covers the cost of custom-tailored pants.
I can relate to this dilemma, after years of roller derby and weightlifting, but I never found a perfect solution. When I asked my teammates for suggestions, the most common reply was “I have no idea, I stopped wearing pants.” Leggings and skirts do the trick for a lot of people, and many hockey players Kaplan spoke to prefer sweatpants as their go-to choice for bottoms.
However, a few brands claim to offer jeans that fit athletic builds. Barbell designs jeans for both men and women, Mugsy creates stretchy jeans for men, and SELF has gathered recommendations from women, including some highly-rated stretchy styles from Gap and Old Navy.
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Have you discovered any brands that fit your unique athletic frame effortlessly? Are Barbell and Mugsy really worth trying? Or, if you’ve had your jeans tailored, what’s the cost, and are you satisfied with how they turned out?
