Firefox on Windows: If you'd rather enjoy videos or music in your desktop players instead of dealing with Flash, the PlayLink extension lets you send any audio or video link straight to your preferred media player.
Nobody enjoys using Flash, and streaming media on the web can be frustrating. If you accidentally close your browser or if a plugin crashes, you'll lose whatever you were watching or listening to. While we already know that you can play YouTube videos directly in VLC, the PlayLink extension for Firefox enhances this experience, allowing you to stream any web media to a desktop player (or another browser) directly from the context menu.
Once installed, open the extension's settings. Here, you can choose which programs should show up in PlayLink's context menu. You can select external browsers and desktop media players (by clicking the "Media Player Link Menu Settings" tab at the top). After selecting your preferred programs, right-click on any media link in Firefox. Whether it's a direct link to an MP3 or a YouTube video, you can open it in VLC, Foobar, or any other media player you set in the settings.
PlayLink is a free extension that works only in Firefox on Windows.
