1. Use External Devices
Switching from a desktop to a laptop can put strain on your wrists and spine. If the screen is positioned properly, your hands will either need to be raised or extended, which can lead to wrist discomfort. However, relaxing the wrists too much can cause neck and head pain. The laptop's keyboard is also smaller than a regular one, which can make typing and using the mouse uncomfortable. To ensure a more comfortable posture, use an external keyboard and mouse. Take regular breaks every hour and stretch your arms, wrists, and fingers to reduce strain.

2. Set Hourly Reminders
You may find yourself working quickly to meet deadlines or becoming so immersed in your tasks that you forget to take breaks, leading to hours of constant screen exposure. Eye care specialists recommend taking a 5-10 minute break after every hour of computer use. Set an alarm to remind yourself to pause, relax your eyes, and protect your vision from strain.

3. Use Artificial Tears
Everyone, regardless of age, should take care of their eyes, especially those over 40 who are more prone to dry eyes from prolonged computer use. However, it’s not just computers; reading books, magazines, and newspapers can also cause dryness. To protect your eyes, use artificial tears to keep them hydrated and prevent discomfort. Additionally, remember to follow the 20-20-20 rule to give your eyes a proper break.

4. Avoid Working in Dark Rooms
Extended computer use can already tire your eyes, so avoid working in dark rooms. This forces your eyes to adjust to varying levels of brightness, which can lead to eye strain and fatigue. Experts recommend stopping electronic reading or computer use in dimly lit areas. Instead, work in well-lit rooms, preferably with natural light, to minimize eye stress and improve comfort.

5. Avoid Heat Exposure for Men
According to the World Health Organization, a sperm count below 20 million per millimeter can lead to infertility, and one of the leading causes of this is frequent exposure to high temperatures. For men, it's crucial to avoid sitting in one position for extended periods as it can reduce fertility. Specifically, avoid placing your laptop on your lap, as the heat from the battery and cooling system can have long-term effects, potentially making it difficult to conceive within 5 to 10 years.

6. Maintain Proper Posture
Sitting in the wrong posture not only causes discomfort and pain but can also reduce productivity and creativity, affecting your work performance. To work more comfortably, make sure to maintain a proper posture by keeping a reasonable distance from the screen (back straight, eyes about 50 cm from the monitor, and elbows bent at a 90-degree angle). Avoid lying down while using your computer, as poor posture will only lead to more discomfort and eye strain.

7. Avoid Using Electronics Before Bed
Humans are naturally programmed to be active during the day and rest at night. Experts advise that using electronic devices before bed can stimulate your nervous system and disrupt your sleep patterns. To ensure a restful night, it's best to turn off all devices such as computers, TVs, and phones at least two hours before bedtime. This will help you fall asleep more easily and enjoy a deeper, more restful sleep.

8. Blink Frequently
Prolonged computer use forces your eyes to remain focused on the screen, which can quickly lead to reduced eye health and dryness. To protect your eyes, practice the habit of blinking frequently. One simple method is the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, take 20 seconds to look at something 20 feet (about 6 meters) away. This gives your eyes a much-needed break. Additionally, rubbing your palms together to generate heat and placing them over your eyes for 20 seconds can help reduce eye strain. This technique is a simple yet effective way to care for your eyes.

9. Stay Hydrated
We all know the importance of water – while humans can survive without food for a month, going without water for more than five days can be life-threatening, as water makes up about 70% of our body weight. A mere 10% dehydration can pose serious health risks. Water is also essential for maintaining your skin's health and vitality. When you’re dehydrated, your body is like a wilted plant. Drinking enough water boosts your metabolism, helps with weight loss, and keeps your eyes hydrated. Plus, frequent trips to the bathroom force you to move, giving your eyes a break from the screen while your body gets some activity.

10. Reduce Screen Radiation
The reflective light from your screen plays a significant role in straining your eyes. However, there are several ways to reduce this radiation. One simple approach is to position your monitor about 50 to 60 cm away from your eyes or adjust the screen brightness until it feels most comfortable for you. Additionally, switching to a newer LCD screen can be beneficial for your eyes. Another tip is to place a Narcissus flower in a vase near your computer – this type of plant can help absorb some of the radiation while you work on your computer.
