Though Nacho Cheese and Cool Ranch (known as Cool American in Europe) have long reigned as America’s top Doritos flavors, Frito-Lay has offered a variety of bold and unique flavors over the years, many of which are now a thing of the past. Here are 13 discontinued Doritos varieties.
1. Doritos Sour Cream and Onion
In the 1970s, Doritos debuted a Sour Cream and Onion flavor. While it was phased out in the early '80s, it made a brief comeback as a limited-edition 'throwback' flavor in 2013.
2. Chester’s Cheese Doritos
In 1995, a collaboration between Doritos and Cheetos brought Chester’s Cheese Doritos to the market. This unique snack blended the signature cheese flavor of Cheetos with the crispy crunch of Doritos tortilla chips. However, it was only available for a limited time.
3. and 4. Doritos Pizza Cravers and Taco Supreme Doritos
In the late '90s, PepsiCo spun off its restaurant division to create Yum! Brands, which included Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. Doritos, as a product of Frito-Lay and PepsiCo, launched Pizza Cravers in partnership with Pizza Hut. Around the same time, Doritos also introduced Taco Supreme Doritos, inspired by Taco Bell’s distinctive flavors.
5. Doritos Jumpin’ Jack Cheese
In 1990, Doritos launched a new flavor called Jumpin' Jack Cheese with a pepper jack twist, accompanied by Jay Leno, pre-Tonight Show, assuring America that teenagers know their cheese. Although it was discontinued in the early '90s, it made a return in 2013 as a limited-edition 'throwback' flavor.
6. Rollitos
In the early 2000s, Doritos reimagined their signature triangular chips by rolling them into small tubes, called Rollitos. Frito-Lay marketed this as an easier way to enjoy Doritos with the same great taste but a louder crunch. Rollitos came in four flavors: Nacho Cheesier, Zesty Taco, Cooler Ranch, and Queso Picante. In 2013, the product was rebranded as Dinamitas, meaning little sticks of dynamite.
7. Doritos Collisions
In 2007, Doritos introduced Doritos Collisions, a unique product that combined two distinct flavors in one bag. Fans could enjoy flavor pairings like Hot Wings & Blue Cheese, Zesty Taco & Chipotle Ranch, Habanero & Guacamole, Cheesy Enchilada & Sour Cream, and Pizza Cravers & Ranch. Despite their popularity, Doritos Collisions were eventually discontinued after a few years.
8. X-13D Flavor Experiment

In 2007, Doritos unveiled a mystery flavor in stores, presented in all-black, unmarked bags, labeled only with the name Doritos X-13D Flavor Experiment and the tagline 'Tasting notes: All-American Classic.' The promotion invited fans to name the new flavor, which turned out to have a cheeseburger-like taste.
9. Doritos Late Night All-Nighter Cheeseburger
Doritos introduced Late Night All-Nighter Cheeseburger chips as part of the Doritos X-13D Flavor Experiment. These chips had a flavor reminiscent of a cheeseburger, with a subtle pickle note. In 2008, Doritos also released Late Night Tacos at Midnight and Late Night Last Call Jalapeño Popper, both available for a limited time.
10. Doritos Quest
In 2008, Doritos launched a mystery chip challenge called The Quest, where participants had to solve puzzles and follow clues to uncover the identity of the new flavor. After a few weeks, Doritos revealed the flavor to be Mountain Dew, aligning with the launch of Mountain Dew’s 'Dewmocracy' flavors: Mountain Dew Supernova (grape), Mountain Dew Revolution (cotton candy), and Mountain Dew Voltage (raspberry).
11. Doritos Degree Burn
In 2010, Doritos introduced three fiery flavors under the Degree Burn name: 1st Degree Burn Blazin’ Jalapeño, 2nd Degree Burn Fiery Buffalo, and 3rd Degree Burn Scorchin’ Habanero. These bright red chips were loaded with spicy seasoning. The release was part of a cross-promotion with Pepsi’s Cease Fire Max Citrus Freeze flavor—combining the heat of the chips with the coolness of the drink.
12. Smokey Red BBQ Doritos
Another Doritos flavor, Smokey Red Barbecue, made its debut in the late '90s before being discontinued. The flavor's commercial featured the iconic 'Doritos girl,' Ali Landry, marking the second time she starred in one. This campaign played a significant role in launching her acting career. In 2002, Landry remarked, 'It’s the best thing that ever happened in my career—and that includes becoming Miss USA.'
13. Doritos Jacked Ranch Dipped Hot Wings
Fans were disappointed when Doritos unexpectedly discontinued the Jacked Ranch Dipped Hot Wings flavor. A change.org petition was even launched, amassing over 70,000 signatures in a bid to bring the beloved flavor back.
