From fuel prices to popular streaming platforms, nearly every facet of daily life in America has seen a surge in costs this year. The next item that might face a price adjustment is your Costco membership. According to Food & Wine, Richard Galanti, Costco's director, EVP, and CFO, recently hinted at the possibility of raising membership fees in the near future.
Currently, Costco's basic Gold Star membership costs $60 annually, a rate that has remained unchanged since June 2017. Historically, the wholesale giant has increased its membership fees approximately every five years. If this trend continues, customers might see a price adjustment as early as 2022 or by early 2023.
During an earnings call in early March, Galanti addressed questions about potential membership fee changes, noting that increases typically occur every five and a half years, or roughly five years and seven months. While he didn't specify whether the next hike would align with the five-year mark (June 2022) or extend to five years and seven months (around January 2023), he confirmed that the company is evaluating the possibility of adjusting fees in the future.
Members who have already renewed their subscriptions this year won't face any surprise charges in 2022. If you're considering joining Costco, now is the perfect opportunity to enroll and secure the current annual rate. This is particularly beneficial for those affected by rising fuel costs, as Costco consistently offers discounted gas prices.
Known for its value-driven offerings, from bulk essentials like toilet paper to its iconic $1.50 hot dog and soda combo, Costco continues to impress. Discover additional hidden benefits from the brand that you might not be taking advantage of.
