The pizza industry is fiercely competitive, with giants like Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Papa Johns, and others vying to prove their pies outshine local pizzerias. Amidst countless marketing tactics, Domino’s has launched a bold initiative: a “free emergency pizza” offer.
To attract customers, Domino’s is promoting its Domino’s Rewards program by providing a free medium two-topping pizza to those who place an initial order of $7.99 or more. After completing a qualifying purchase, you can claim the free pizza within seven days and redeem it within 30 days.
While this isn’t a substitute for health insurance or tied to specific events, Domino’s anticipates you might use your free pizza during moments like a cooking mishap, a hectic schedule, or a group study session.
Over the years, Domino’s has launched several innovative marketing campaigns, such as a 2010 initiative where they admitted their pizzas were lacking and vowed to improve, as well as a 2018 project to repair potholes and brand them with the Domino’s logo. (The three dots on the signage symbolize the first three Domino’s locations.)
Founded in 1960 by brothers Tom and Jim Monaghan, the chain saw Jim trade his stake in the business to Tom for a 1959 Volkswagen Beetle. In his 1986 autobiography, Pizza Tiger, Tom recounted early challenges, including an incident where he resorted to physical confrontation when a customer refused to pay for a delivered pizza.
This latest promotion comes with some restrictions: the free pizza cannot be ordered on October 31 (Halloween) or New Year’s Eve. However, the offer is valid until Super Bowl Sunday on February 11, 2024.
