While a Michelin star is often linked to expensive dining experiences, that’s not always true. The prestigious Michelin Guide has awarded stars to both humble street food vendors and high-end restaurants alike. The map below highlights the most affordable Michelin-starred eateries across numerous countries.
Accredited Debt Relief analyzed international dining options to create this graphic, showcasing the least expensive three-course meals recognized by the Michelin Guide. Although France is renowned for its gourmet dining, it also features the most affordable option on the map. At Hostellerie la Montagne in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, diners can enjoy a prix fixe dinner for just €20, or $24.52 USD. In the United States, State Bird Provisions in San Francisco offers the least expensive Michelin meal at $45.
While considered inexpensive by Michelin Guide standards, these meals aren’t always cheap by everyday standards. In Norway, diners must pay $151.39 for a meal at Statholder Gaarden, the country’s most affordable Michelin restaurant according to the map. Meals in Macau, South Korea, Iceland, and Denmark all surpass $100 as well.
Since Accredited Debt Relief only considered set menus, some remarkable bargains are excluded from the map. In 2016, the Michelin Guide awarded a star to Singapore's street food vendor Chan Hon Meng, offering chicken plates for just $1.50. Six years earlier, Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong earned a star for its affordable dim sum.
